I was looking at a jetski and the current owner is the orignial owner of the ski.. says that he barely used the ski over the whole time he had it.. he states that the only thing wrong with the ski is that the hour gauge doesnt work and that his mechanic that works on the ski said there is a battery inside the cluster that runs the hour gauge adn that it must have died.. is this true? do the clusters have a built in battery that runs only the hour gauge? if so what would it take to replace.. he says that only a dealership can hook up and tell the hours... how much would a dealership charge to get the hours? the ski looks to be in tip top shape with the exception it hasnt been used in 3 years.. but states it runs perfectly.. its a 1997 Seadoo GTX..

false..........s/d dealer or any mechanic that has the landyard programmer, can check the hrs on mpem/ski.

Nope... not true. The Hour meter is a non-volatile ram, and does not need power. (it's like the Odometer on your car. Non-resettable)

Depending on the ski... the actual hour meter could be in the MPEM or the gauge.

The only way I know it can be reset is if it was shorted out, or zapped with static electricity.... but then... nothing would probably be working.

Is his mechanic an actual seadoo dealer??? If he isn't... before you buy it... take it to a dealer and have them hook into the computer. They should be able to get the time for you.

I dont think its an actual seadoo dealer... all this guy said was that his mechanic told him that there is an internal battery that must have died and its not producing the hour gauge on the display but that a seadoo dealer can hook up their computer and read the exact hours.. just didnt know if that was true about the battery or if the ski just doesnt have an readable hour gauge for hte user adn that only a dealer can check the hours.. wasnt sure if the 97 GTX had the hour display ornot..
