Are cam sensors a problem with 4-Tec engines? Are they known for intermittent faults?

I picked up a P-0344 fault last week. The ski ran great even with the fault. I pulled out the manual, and my Power Probe 3. I have 12 VDC to pin 3 of the sensor, and I had continuity between pins 1 & 2 to their connections at the ECU harness (20 & 34). I didn't have a 1200 ohm resistor handy, so I couldn't perform the voltage check on the sensor.

I cleared the fault with my CanDoo, and ran the ski on the hose. So far, the fault hasn't returned.

Thanks in advance!

I took the ski out after clearing the fault. The ECU didn't throw a code while I had the ski on the hose, but it did as soon as I hit the 3 mile mark. I swapped the sensor from the Sister ski and cleared the fault again. The fault didn't return. Ordered a used sensor from eBay.

I still don't understand how the ECU will let the engine run with the cam sensor signal missing. The ECU logic must be set up to detect any millisecond fault, but the the duration wasn't long enough to shut down the engine.
