The kids are now getting old enough to get back into Seadoos! I've been away too long. I'm going to look at a 2002 GTX DI tomorrow and have not owned this new of a ski. It seems that some are a little leery of the DI engines and was wondering if most thought that this might be one to avoid. It has been only adult ridden and looks almost showroom new, so I know that the owner has taken very good care of it. ANY opinions pro or con before I drop $4000 would be greatly appreciated. My last ski was a 96 XP and have not owned a 3-seater. Thanks in advance! Glad to be back!

Yes, trailer & cover included. Trailer is in excellent condition. It has 106 hours on it and has only been ridden in one lake. Never been in salt water or beached. Price-wise, that's about what they are going for around here right now. I've gone to see at least a dozen other skis that are nowhere near close to the condition advertised. At least this one is almost showroom condition, relatively speaking, for its age. I just don't want to have to spend $3-4k on major engine/computer work anytime soon. I'm willing to pay a good price for a good ski. My other option is to keep it simple (and cheaper) and buy a 96 GTI for half the price. Was just kind of wanting something a little more "up to date".

the DIs can be handful to fix if they don't work, if this one is in running shape I see no reason that wouldn't continue.

Just change the oil filter, check the fuel filter, and get some fresh gas in it.

For that price I'd expect to water test it first as well.

Thanks. The DI model wasn't my first choice as I've seen mixed reviews. I am a firm believer that most anything should run well and last a long time if properly cared for. That's the problem with buying used, but the wife won't let me buy new right now.

The owner has now called to "let me know" that the maint light is on and that it problem just needs to be serviced. Could this be a major issue?

just a reminnder light . I have 2000 gtx di , great ski only minor issues . fun ski to ride

I have a 02 GTX RFI I purchased in the fall of 09 with trailer for less than $3k in Ohio. Most in my area go for $3000 - $3500 (I live in western NY).

I also have a 02 GTX DI I purchased from a neighbor this past fall with trailer for about $3k. Most in my area go for $3000 - $3500.

Both fresh water ski's and less than 100 hours on each. Have not seen an issue with the DI in the last 1-1/2 year that the neighbor owned it. I understand they have regulator / rectifier issues like the RFI's. The regulator / rectifier were designed on the low side or just marginal. My RFI I replaced the regulator / rectifier and the stator so I didn't fry a $150 regulator / rectifier. So far so good.

The DI & RFI should be reasonably good on fuel it you stay away from WOT. Example, a friend rode my 96 GTX (787 carb) while my wife & I rode double on the 02 RFI. After cruising around (35 -40 mph) for about 3 hours with stops here and there the 96 used 7.5 gallons while the RFI used 5 gallons.

Just a few random thoughts.....

1) The price is high.

2) Di skis are great when they are running. They have good power, and burn less fuel than the carb versions.

3) The issue is when they stop running. They can be hard to diagnose, and they get very expensive to fix. This is why I recommend that most people stay clear of them. Regardless of actual run time, or how clean it is... that's a 10 year old ski, and the rubber parts can be starting to fail. Last summer I bought an XP that only had 46 hours on the clock... but I had to replace the fuel lines, clean the carbs, replace the fuel valve, service the oil system. I obviously do my own work... but to have that all done at a shop would have cost +$600.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated info. I think I'm going to write this one off, although the owner said he was going to take it to the shop to have it checked out. In the meantime, I've found a super-clean 98 GTX for about half the price that I'm going to see. That would allow me to purchase a second one (two-seater) much sooner. Now if I only had a Triton Trailer dealer within 500 miles I'd be all set. :). Previously had the Elite II that I wish I had never sold!

Not in TX.... I sold a 01 for $3700 on trailer. Also I have three people on a waiting list for a 2002 GTX DI AT $4500 ON TRITON TRAILER. Of course they are skis That are worked on by me... LOL
