Buy 2003 Sea Doo GTX 4 TEC (non super charged)?

As some of you know from my other posts I'm having trouble with my 99 gsx limited. I was thinking of buying a 2003 GTX 4 TEC, the non super charged kind. List price is $3,995 without trailer. It has 186 hours on it. Here is the link to the dealer's website listing:

Even if I get my GSX repaired I am looking for a 3 person PWC. I should have read these forums before buying the GSX. I have learned the hard way that a 2 person PWC is not really designed for 2 people. Talking it over with the wife, a 3 person PWC would really be ideal, instead of two skis, not to mention the cost of only maintaining one. In other words, she said buy a 3 person ski but we're only having one.

I'm looking for something fast though speed is not first priority. The most important factors are something stable with 2 people riding on it and low maintenance.

Good deal or not? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

It is pretty normal to get 400 or so hours in the engine. So you are close to half of the engine life.

If it wasn't a dealer I'd bet closer to 3 grand ish.

Good to know. I had my ski a month and only put about 10 hours on it. Realistically, given the short riding season and having 2 small kids I would guess putting about 30-40 hours per season. That should give me a few years right?

There doesn't seem to be anything good on Craigslist or eBay around here except for older skis (99 or earlier).

I just bought a 04 GTX Limited S/C with 57 hrs on it w/o a trailer for 4k 3 weeks ago from a craigslist ad. Don't buy from a dealer, look at CL now the season is over and snag an awesome deal.

Our local dealer wanted $3,400 for a 2002 GTX 4-tec with 250 hrs on it back in July....I'm glad I passed...

*edit. It may be worth it to travel a little ways, check other CL

The 155 is probably one of the best motors used by seadoo. Plenty of power, reliable, and decent on gas. Put gas in it and change the oil and they'll run forever.

Good to know. That is exactly what I'm looking for. Reliable engine with decent power. I don't have the time or skill to do many repairs so I like something that will run forever!

Do you usually ride solo or with a partner? With 2 kids and a wife I quickly learned that "2 person" skis are really designed for 1.

I usually ride 2 up 90% of the time and its more than comfortable for both myself and the passenger. I have also on a few occasions when tubing had a 3rd passenger. While its acceptable you don't want to go on long rides. After about a half hr riding 3 up can get a little cramped

If you are not looking for a 70 mph ski, I think the 155 hp 4 tec engine is what you need for more reliable and trouble less, just double check for how good of the engine condition, 186 hour engine time is nothing if the current owner treated the engine well, my 110 hp ski has 155 hours on it but the motor still runs like new and hitting 58-59 mph without problems. For the price, you should check with the book for its value.
