Bowser’s SPX

You could split the case and check out the crank, Does it leak oil from the rotary valve cavity? If it’s good might be an idea to just do a top end on it, should be able to get it done for around 500.00. I hear a lot of bad about the SBT engines on here. Is that a 717 in your SPX? I’m to lazy to look back in the thread

Right I would want to open it up- I'm just hesitant to snap bolts off.

When I bought the 'Doo it came with two extra blown motors so I tried opening up one and kept snapping the bolts off the head cover. Couldn't remove the headcover either. I am unsure if SBT would still take it as a core if the bolts are stuck and mangled up.

Ideally it would be nice to open 'er up and replace & clean whats necessary. It's a 657x Rotax in this year SPX 👍

Oh, those 657’s are a lot of fun, move right along

Slight update.
I took the spare locked-up Rotax motors, 657x and 720, that I bought initially with the SPX and sold them to a scrapyard for a whopping eight dollars.

I intend to sell the boat trailer that I bought with the pair of WaveRunner 500's and funnel that into my replacement SBT motor fund.
So that's where I'm at with the 'Doo

Wow, 8.00 bucks. Did you try posting them? Did either have an exhaust manifold on it? I see people asking 80.00 for an exhaust manifold plus shipping

I just looked back at the pictures, I see the exhaust manifold was still on the 717, intake’s on both, stator’s, possible cranks. Maybe I’m a hoarder but I hate to see that stuff getting crushed.

I part them down and make decent money. Like you said, all those individual parts add up to a few hundred dollars per engine.

Bought this SPX plus the small trailer it sat on for $350 and to my absolute delight we tested the compression at nearly 150 psi both cylinders. The trailer it came on is even better condition that the first trailer I bought too.

Starter switch does not work so that's my first goal to replace.
Since these pics I've washed off most of the lichen growth on the sides (super satisfying) and replaced the tires of the trailer.
Def looking forward to tinkering on this since I know my way around this model pretty well by now. . 😇
