Problem:
Bogging down after it heats up in water. let sit for a bit runs for 5 mins b4 boggs again. It seems when it warms a bit it boggs down and barely wants to go. even If the throttle is wide open. I tried to fether the gas to see if its a clitch in carbs. I dont think its a fuel issue becuase it only boggs when it warms up a bit.
Details: 98 xp 787 I rebuilt the motor rebuilt jet pump, rebuilt carbs twice, new fuel lines and valve, new rotary shaft and valve. new rectifier and i have good spark. The only noticeble problem is I think my oil pump may be going. I took off my injection lines @ the pump base and saw a slight trickle. but after I take a ride and check my return line, and no oil in it at all. It doesnt seem to be flowing back from case into resrvier. It seems like the slight trickle that the pump is functing at some level. But, I dont know if oil in the crank case would cuase bogging. And I have a slight knocking(maybe from bad gas.
I did siphon and put new gas back in end of august. I did mix some oil in with new gas for breakiin of new pistons. And there is circulation of water through out the engine. on land the ski sounds great.runs good for a bit, but after 5 mins in water it moves like its 2 iddle even wen throttle is pegged?

how to prime a oil pump? and where can i buy a pressure checker?

Sounds like it overheating. Does your buzzer work?

As far as the oil pump... they never go bad. BUT... the filter could be plugged. Also... I'm not sure how you checked it... but remember... at idle... you can be in the range of 70:1... so it's not going to move much oil. AND... it really doesn't make any pressure.

There is a test for the pump outlined in the manual, and how to measure the output.

Nope the temp sensor plug on head was cracked and keeps falling off so I dont no if its overheating. why do you think its overheating? it squrits hot water out of the discharge line. The oil filter seems like a good cuase. When I bought it there was green 2 stroke oil in the resv. but i drained it and put some quicksliver synthetic. And i'm just remembering I never changed that filter so, it probably clogged up.

+1 for what HondaDoc said. That's how I got my $400 '94 GTX with trailer. Exact same symptoms, except in this case the buzzer worked but the guy was convinced it couldn't be overheating. He did the cool it down, run it till it bogs and doesn't want to go cycle enough times that it lunched the bottom end. I pulled the rotary valve cover off and a piece of rod had cut a chunk out of it. I rebuild vintage old two stoke motorcycles as a hobby so it was a great deal for me, but I'd really recommend replacing that sending unit and testing the buzzer before tossing out the idea that it could be overheating.

If by any chance it does turn out to be the oil pump, let me know, I've got a 657 pump you can have. Just pulled it off a running motor, I prefer premix so I put a blockoff plate on.

Either you have an exhaust leak in the hull, or it's not getting oil and is overheating and seizing like has been said. Sounds like it may be the latter, basically worst cases scenario.

Oil pumps barely trickle...esp if you dont hold the oil pump wide open at idle. The oil bath is just that....it doesnt really circulate.

Does it hardly start once it warms up? Or does it pop right off and idle after 5mins?
