Battery Relocation idears

K so after having batterys die every couple months, ive decided to re-locate the battery, anybody have any ideas?
Do you have a battery switch? If not, are you disconnecting the batteries from the boat while not in use? How is relocating the batteries going to keep them from "dying?"

The location of the battery in stock position should be a good location. I agree it shouldn't cause battery failure.

Karl

No, not that its causing them to die, just that if one does, its a pain to get to, id like to get a Optima, just havnt seen it done, wondering if anybody had idears, the flooded batterys dont realy make since to me, i think its my driving that kills them...

Batteries should get at least 2 seasons out of one if maintained properly and tied down in the hull of the boat in it's battery box. If you must move it just be sure the cables reach it ok and it is secured down real good. I've never had an issue with batteries. I leave them in the stock location and secure with the strap, done. It only takes about 5 minutes to pull a battery out of a Seadoo Jet Boat anyway.

Karl

nevermind ill stay with the OE batts, just seein if anybody had any ideas, Im gna stick with the ones from batteries + they seem to last abot a year and a half which isnt to bad

That's about normal for your battery. The placement is a good location from seadoo. It's balanced and out of harms way when doing any repairs or cleaning... I've added a battery, but never had to move an existing one.

Karl

:agree:Thats true never thaught about that, Id like to install a switch, can I just switch the negative cable, I kno that isnt the normal way to install a cutoff switch, but with there being two hot lines idk how id do it witout having two switches or tying them together, which idk what the real draw back to that would be either, sorry if this is a search item, sure its on here somewhere!

West Marine sells a single and a 2 battery switch. It has a good diagram for hooking up the extra wire. You should connect the Positive+ wire to it so it turns on and off the power. Leave the ground to the engine where it is.

Karl

sounds like, you got 2-little 12v batteries. What if you removed them, cut the trays inside walls, to make it look like one big tray, then install a regular car/marine battery?

k now im confused, my boat will only start off of a jump pack, wtf? everything works fine lights are bright but starter just doesnt work correctly on either motor even with the battery switch on the dash turned...

Battery switch on the dash?

Also jumping your boat is asking for issues, you'll probably end up killing your MPEM.

Check the battery wires and the ground going to the engine. They need to be cleaned and getting a good connection. Is it charging properly? Using a multi mete, check the battery terminals at rest should be putting out 12.4 +- volts. While it is running, it should put out about 14+- volts at above 3000 rpms.

Thanks fer all ur help Karl! Took out the batteries, found that one was at 5.6 volts the other at 12.2, load tested em, they are both junk, Im gna do that conversion to a single battery, however, which battery should I get, the space is 9.5 x 6.75 x about 8 to 9 tall, ive read series 24, but can,t seem to find any online... mabie ill jsut go to the store with a tape measure!

Get the highest amp hours you can get for the size you need. I have had good luck with Auto Zone...the Durafast Fast brand battery, I think...

Karl

Right now I have a series 24 battery in mine, deep cycle, from Wal-Mart. I would not recommend this battery. The 24 series fits in my box just fine, but for the love of all that is good and holy on this earth, DO NOT BUY FROM WAL-MART! Auto-Zone will have a battery, probably around 70 or 80 bucks, and that should last a while. Next season I'm getting a new battery, probably from Auto-Zone, and replacing the Wal-Mart junk that the previous owner installed.

Wow, that's lucky. I've never had luck with Wal-Mart batteries. Heck, this one's barely over a year old and has a cell that's almost gone, and the acid in it is all milky looking, like they used actual milk instead of water.

Actually the Walmart batteries are Interstate batteries. I have had good luck with them but, I have had better luck with Auto Zone. The stock isn't as old as Walmarts.

Karl

Well ended up going to o OReilly went to auto zone, they didn't have ne thing that would fit, the one I got from Oreileys, was 60 bucks, and has two year free replacement, SO, ill kill it is 1.5 years AND I can get it in and out without removing the oil res, I shaved a skiff of foam off to get er in place, the thing works like a dream thanks fer all ur help!

NOW fer a switch and a volt meter...
