I am preparing to do my audio upgrade this week and have a few questions. I know I would like to add a preconnected plug to the battery for charging. I have read several times on here that the battery should be disconnected and charged out of the boat, but I have also seen several people install plugs like I plan to for charging. So what am I missing?
My boat has a battery switch. It seems to me, that if I install the cables to the battery itself, then when the switch is off it would be ok to charge since the switch is breaking the circuit and preventing the charge from backfeeding into the boat electronics.
I just want to make sure I am not going to do any damage. I recently picked up a Die Hard charger/maintainer. It has a 12volt cigarette lighter type plug than can be used to charge. I thought that if I buy a female plug I could wire it to the battery and when I need to charge just plug it in. Here is a link to the one I bought. I would appreciate any feedback. THANKS
