Battery flying out of tray

Just wondered if anyone had a creative solution on keeping the battery in the tray... Every time I go out wave jumping in my XP I end up losing the battery.... Just seems the rubber tray and factory strap are just not enough to keep it secure. Any ideas would be welcome, this is getting old. This battery tray is still intact but I know if I don't come up with something soon it will ruin it like the others in the past...
 
Are you missing the inner tray? Mine has an outer rubber tray and then an inner one that is real snug on the battery
 
Nope, I have it in there as well, real snug on the battery.... Atleast I think? I have the hard plastic tray on the outside and then the thick rubber tray that sits inside of that and wraps around the battery...
 
Some of the newer agm batteries are shorter than OEM, there should be about a 1" adapter with the new battery, if not use a piece of 1x3 wood under the battery tray.

That makes a little more sense Lou, this a newer agm, so I would bet it's shorter... I have the 1in tray added with it but still the problem... I think it was [MENTION=41828]Minnetonka4me[/MENTION] who had a cool setup in his.... I wanna say he was using a snowboard binding to help hold his down as he was having the same issue... Or on second thought maybe that was [MENTION=57920]racerxxx[/MENTION]


Edit: I'm wondering if having that 1in plastic tray added inside that rubber grommet is hurting me a little bit, with that plastic in there it keeps the battery out of the rubber tray now that I think about it

Nope, not me that was tonka. I'm lo-tech, I twisted the strap like 3 or 4 times and then stretch it to the latch. Works like a dream and no cobble job with a spacer or block of wood. Yes, I jump waves and have no problems.

Got ya, see I couldn't remember... I'm where your at right now, I twisted my strap a few times on the last ride out, it held like that the rest of the trip.... Just didn't know how long that would work, I ride down here in a d*mn washing machine!!! Lol, so I think I'm gonna need something really sturdy... Almost thought about using some industrial zip ties and tying it to the tray
 
I've hit some serious air and major chop and for the last 2 years it's never popped. The end of my battery tray is even cracked and missing a chunk (like that when I got it). Twist it one more time and call it a day.

Sounds good my friend, I'll give her another twist and see what happens, if it flys out again I'll give the zip ties a shot... Or maybe Nick can shoot me a picture of his setup with the snowboard binding
 
So what is the method of jumping these waves? Using mostly boat wake or what?

Sometimes I nearly fly off the ski due to the lift I get, other times I plow right through the wake and get soaked. I am trying to figure out the best method for getting air.

My battery seems to be holding tight. I have the battery adapter (spacer) flipped upside down on the bottom to give me a bit more tension.
 
Mainly boat wake down here... Lake of the Ozarks where we ride is insane.... At times there are 7ft rollers lol.... My buddy taught me to hit the wake at an angle if that makes any sense, and I always hit the second wave off of the wake... Ride slower over the first wave and gun it at a slight angle between the two... Atleast that's my method and it seems to work, been so high I've scared myself lol
 
I can get some major air off boat wakes, ill trail behind it and try to hit the second wake it the line and an angle and launch. Try to land on the back end of the doo, it softens the landing. Landing flat on off a big wave is brutal

Hahahah looks like we share the same strategy! And yes definitely land back first!!! So soft when done properly.... Flat sounds like the ski is gonna break in half lol
 
depending on the size of the wave, and what kind of wake determines the angle you take. if they're far enough apart that you can sneak into the flat behind the first wave, you can take a run into the second one and hit it at 35-40mph for a long, high jump. like everyone says, try to land tail first, but if you're trimmed all the way up like you should be the ski will naturally rotate backward.

if the wake is close together and tall, you can ride over the first one at a bit of an angle just on plane but not fast enough to jump the first wave, then peg it on the way down the back side and back up the second wave. with all of these you're wanting to come at the wave at like a 30-45 degree angle.

here is my battery fix a rubber thingy I found in my garage and some jb weld works really good might get laughed at when it go's for core if it survived me it works

x4 are awesome out ran my buddies pro1200 on the weekend on a stock pipe 61 to his 59 he was so pouty "how dose an 800 beet a 1200"he says I said doo or die splashed him and drove away he said he is buying a spark when breaks the polaris
 
Now that's a creative fix...Keep em comin! Kinda neat to see some other ideas, and yes gotta love the X4 what kind of mods are on your Xp?

Weird, I have always come "normal" to the wave when trying to jump. What is the advantage to coming in at an angle?
 
I only come at an angle to help avoid the first wave off of the wake... If you go straight you'll hop the first wave and plow the second one lol....if there is only one I take it straight up.... Where I'm at if you hit the first one your liable to plow or land on the second

to avoid jumping the first wave into the second, also lets you jump little bass boat wakes easier. i grew up riding on a small lake with a max 25' rule. you can come in normal to the wave but you have to be going slower over the first wave.

in the attached pic, you can see there is a gap behind the first wave where you can come in at an angle at higher speed and miss the first wave to jump lower and longer off the second, if you want a shorter distance higher jump you'd come in slower and closer to normal to the boat's direction and try to get a run down the back of the first wave for more pop off the second.

Yes I use a snowboard binding but I have found it will not work in a boat with VTS. I also take an extra rubber tray and cut the bottom out and put the "band" around the battery to keep the battery from tipping side to side.

Also...if your tray is all cracked, nothing will hold it in. If you need a replacement let me know.
 
I have the advantage of either boat wake or ocean/inlet waves to jump. Couple the latter with a storm or small craft advisory and your fixing to have a great time!

Yep. Skip the first one. Biggest thing is to keep your head in the game, especially if others are doing it. Everyone goes from the same side, then switch. I have seen way too many close calls from Jack holes attacking both sides of the wake.

Thanks Nick, good to know. My tray isn't cracked so that's good, ha this is the second tray I've ordered from you lol... I'm gonna mess around a little when I'm off work and see what kind of hold down I can come up with...
And Dan, sounds like a blast man! I'm not on a big enough body of water to have a small craft advisory, but believe me, if it was possible to have one here this lake would be like that 24/7... I completely agree on keeping your head on a swivel, bunch of guys riding and jumping with no clue or courtesy [emoji35]

Yes he did, he's written about it here before (sorry don't have a link). If you are going to use a spacer you want it on the top as Micheal showed, not on the bottom because that will raise the center of gravity of the battery.

The new Interstate AGM batteries are as tall as the old lead acid fillables. However I have not jumped any wakes yet with it so I can't say how well they stay.
