Are Gas Gauges Interchangable?

I have a 97 XP with a good tested fuel sending unit but a dead fuel gauge. I noticed the part number on the gauge is 278-001-338 which is for a 99-01 GTS.

Are these gauges interchangable?

97 XP part number is 278-001-103.

Yes the gauges may not have the correct connections on the end but you can figure it out according to wire color if need be.
