Anything for stability?

I was just wondering is there anything you can add to increase the stability of a 98 GSX limited. It's not too bad just was wondering if aftermarket sponson would increase buoyancy?

Thanks

Buying a bigger ski will help.

Sorry... but there's no magic on it. When you buy a small(ish) ski... they are tippy. But, that's what makes them maneuverable.

I'd say that ski has more of a porpoising problem than a stability problem... I had a 99 GSX 951, and it would just pop up/down all freaking day.

porpoising is when the nose of the ski tends to "porpoise" up and down like your rolling over speed bumps.

generally its solved by speeding up/slowing down, trimming down or by getting off the center of the hull by making slow turn left or right, only to start porpoising again when you start going in a straight line and the cycle repeats, over and over all day. The yamaha GP hulls are probably the most famous for this, and the X4's aren't much better.

I never really noticed it much on the GSX but I rode an xp for quite some time so maybe I was just used to it and didn't pay attention.

As far as stability, the GSX is pretty stable IMO, certainly not as bad as other models, but not nearly as good as the new ski's which are quite a bit larger/wider.

If your new to the sport I recommend just spending more time on it and becoming more comfortable with the balance needs.

Are you usually riding solo or with a passenger ? Riding with a passenger can certainly impact the "tippi-ness" factor.

That's why I added the big ass tabs on the back of my XP. It will run dead flat at full throttle, even with my fat @ss on it.

Had I not sold my 99 GSX, I'd have had to have done something... two people on that and it just BOUNCED all day.

trim all the way down, the slightest bump would get it rockin!

Trim all the way down helps a bunch with the bouncing (as said earlier) but it will never be as good as a GTX for that. It is like the difference between a sports car and an SUV.. The ski is really stable unless you are going really slow and turn hard. (the only time I have fallen off it).
