Anyone got a trailer?

Trailer just cracked in half, not even joking. Been working on my boat almost all summer and now I finally got it done, my damn trailer cracked. I have a 1998 Challenger 1800. PLEASE HELP!!

trailers are simple beasts. Just reinforce and weld back together. Or is the whole trailer falling apart?

The left rail is almost cracked all the way through, its so rotted its not even funny. When I got it, it had a "great" paint job, now I know why. To hide what was under it. I will try to post some pics.

What about getting a piece of steel, and U-bolting to to the fractured frame? What that work?

Assuming this is a regular steel trailer. Do you boat in Salt Water? if so you'll need to bite the bullet and purchase a galvanized trailer.

No reason that shouldn't work. Just make sure you over engineer it. Always better to make fixes like that stronger than they need to be. Also, if the trailer is as bad as you say it is I'd go over it thoroughly and see where else needs help. Might as well tackle the issues now before they fatigue further.

u-bolt repair???

Do not repair with u-bolts:ack:,you will most likely be "clamping" to another stressed out peice of material. Best thing to do is sandblast the paint off and expose the metal to inspect.Thats the best thing,but not practical to most of us.At least take a sander,wire wheel or scraper to the suspisous areas and repair the cracks with WELD. Then plate over the welded area and WELD the plate. It's not really that big of a job to an experienced welder.You may have to pay for 1-2 hrs of his time and have it done right
Trailers are subjected to huge dynamic loads and should only be repaired by a qualified welder (or replace it) Your boat will thank you
