Just over a year old (1 year, 2 months to be exact), 90 HP Seadoo that is basically a write off if Seadoo won’t cover it.

The Marina has told me that the warranty may not cover it, yet they’ve also agreed w/ me that I didn’t hit a thing (no scratches to be found or anything), and it was simply from wave jumping (isn’t that what Seadoo’s are advertised to do?).

I have a 22” crack on the back left of the Seadoo and they’re telling me that a brand new hull would have to be installed, which is why it’s a write-off if they don’t cover it.

So has anyone dealt with anything of this nature before. I felt the crack and its now noticeable (bout a 1/4” drop off on each side) and the entire engine compartment has been knocked off alignment (grinding is what you hear when in water). I’m worried Seadoo (BRP) will come back w/ some bull, but 4 ft. waves shouldn’t break the hull. Plus, the back end usually goes down smooth, if not always. The front takes the most impact. Plastic bottom, not fibreglass.

Is this the new GTI 90 with the polymer hull? I saw a review where the guy was hitting the bottom with a baseball bat without even a dent or bump.

At the dealer when I bought it, they told me a guy had hit a huge rock and the he had made "only" a three inch hole in the hull and that the hull had to be replaced. I was also told that the polymer hulls were more solid than fiberglass and that they would become a standard on all models.

I also have a manufacturing issue with my new GTI 90 and I opened a case with the dealer two days ago. Will see how it evolves.

Interesting.

This is a polymer hull (don’t know why I said plastic). I know for sure I didn’t hit anything. They seemed pretty set on Seadoo likely saying no and not covering it, and then said it’s a write off. Though they did put in a claim that it was a manufacture problem and said they might ask for more information.

This is not the 2018 version, but the 2017. Though they seem damn identical in terms of the hull, etc.

Also, the mechanic told me today that “wave jumping” would likely cause this issue on a polymer hull 10x before having damage on a fibreglass hull. I wish I would have thrown the extra 500 for the GTI 130 but I was truly oblivious to everything Seadoo related at the time.

GTI 130 was way more expensive here (like 3,000$ CDN more with sales taxes). This is why I settled for the 90 as speed doesn't really attract me anymore. But honestly, I cannot figure how a hull could crack by jumping a wave (I would be more concerned by the engine revving up for a few seconds).

Let us know how this is evolving with BRP. An ex employee of BRP told me today that the quality of manufacturing has greatly gone down since they are now manufactured in Mexico... My second ski is a 2003 and the body is rock solid. A little bit of gelcoat under and the hull still looks like new... I bought the new GTI for more reliability because I am often the only one on the lake...

Yeh, I must have been in a period of deals bc/ my parents wanted one, so they got the 130 and it was just $500 CAN more.

Speaking of the crack, where I ride there is nothing to hit. Don’t know if you’re in Ontario, but I ride Lake Huron by Sauble Beach a lot (and where this happened) and it is pretty much only sand where I was.

I’ll keep you updated. I can’t see how BRP doesnt cover this, but I’m sure it will be a fight.

I'm in Lac Simon, western Quebec where the lake is very deep! Not far north East of Ottawa. Plenty of Ontario people around the lake here.

I would really fight BRP on that crack they know they have a problem and there a whole lot of people on social media getting together with the same problem cracking hulls

Good to know. All polymec hulls that people are experiencing these issues with? I’ve always thought that a crack at the back left of the machine doesn’t make sense. The biggest impact is usually the front, regardless the issue shouldn’t be an issue and I will fight it if I have to.

I don't think it's common. The sparks have been good. Now the gti is a couple hundred pounds heavier so that may be a contributing factor and if the gtis become prone to cracking hopefully brp will step up. The history with the sparks is they wouldn't cover cracked hulls saying impact or wave jumping would not be covered by warranty. This is why i carry full coverage insurance on my machines. Insurance should cover that if BRP won't. My experience with BRP has been less than stellar, though my dealership is awesome and helped me out with the last issue that was a wiring issue that brp refused to cover because it was a month out of its factory warranty and the extended warranty excluded wiring. Though Canada may have different laws and regulations that protect the consumer more

So I have insurance here in Ontario through Northstar (Aviva). I am a little worried because the guy said to me today that he’s got to find out more information first and make sure I’m covered, though the policy would indicate I would be.

BRP came back with a big fat no on the warranty claim, which I kind of find to be some big bullshit. These things should be allowed to ride on water that has 15km/h winds on that day.

Yea I won't buy another BRP product. Kawasaki's customer satisfaction and service is head and shoulders above BRP. Kawasaki covered my gas tank for a chip in the paint, it was a defect in the paint I felt as there was no scratch or dent or any indication of any impact but I felt they would deny the claim and to my surprise they covered it and sent a new tank.

Yamaha is pretty good too. BRP and Polaris are probably the worst in the industry for getting warranty work approved.

Yeh, if I have to I’m going to fight BRP on it (if insurance claim doesn’t work, it should). I have Nautimax insurance (Aviva) through Northstar and the policy claims I would receive my agreed value watercraft $$ in full if a total loss, which the assessment on my Sea-Doo is that the fix is more than the machine.

I’ve been looking at the GP1800 2018 edition from Yamaha and then also have the 155 GTI SE still in the back of my mind w/ Seadoo. I’d be going from a recreational craft to a performance craft and I think I’d have more fun on the GP1800.

Gotta check out Kawasaki still. Not to aware of the crafts they have.
