Ive heard people say that buying that cover is just like going to a shop and buying a standard piece of marine vinyl.

That's what I am thinking as well. Are the Black Tip covers cut and sworn to conform to the seat contour?

The black tips are cut and stitched to fit the seat. A lot of people use blacktip, hydro turf or the best looking (IMO) jet trim but most expensive

Thanks guys. I'll look at the other options. No big rush on the seat...expecting the crank and gasket set today. Rebuild to begin.

Jet trim IMO is the best looking, although I went with the hydro turf premier series and I'm very pleased with it.... The cheaper hydro turf covers are very nice as well and IMO better than the black tip for roughly the same price

I've heard that some vendors in the past offer 50% of on track mats on Black Friday. Same for seat cover?

Yes, I think black tip offers the 50 off. No need to wait that long, it's still July you'll have that XP fine before Black Friday.

I used the DIY Seat company for an SP that I was flipping. It is a single flat piece of marine grade vinyl that is cut to the rough shape of the seat. It was not easy to get flat but with a heat gun and lots of patience it turned out great and looked just like stock. But to answer the question it is just a piece of marine grade vinyl and nothing more.

How many yards did you order to do your HX seat in the CF material? I am looking to put the CF type material on my 96 xp soon.

I got the carbon fiber vinyl for my HX from here. I requested samples and had them in like a weeks time, then ordered. The 4 way all-sport is really nice stuff. You may be able to find it cheaper. It was nice to have the samples to check the quality.

Thanks, I am going to attempt this upholstery project once I find the correct type of air stapler and stainless staples.

I'll have to check to see. Probably just a yard, but I'll check to be 100%.

LOL, no Swingline, Central Pneumatics.

Stapler 68029

Staples I got from Home Depot, T-50 Stainless steel 3/8" long.

Here you go, I ordered 1 yard, it will be 36" long X 54" wide. I called my order in, they were super nice people. Shipping was a tad steep, but I bout a total of 2 colors (a yard each) and also a HUGE spool of thread and shipping was $15.70, honestly the material is kinda heavy.

Putting a cover on is super easy. I got the black tip on black friday for half off and free shipping. To make it easier I put my cover in the dryer for 5-10 mins to get it good, warm and pliable. It went on super easy. Just pulled it nice and tight while it was warm. You'll see my seat tomorrow and it looks damn good.

For staples you want to use Monel and not stainless. The Monel ones are specifically for marine environments and I know Home Depot has them. If you look at the stainless ones they even say not for salt water or marine use on the box. I didn't know this until I did my seat.

Hmmmm I just went and checked mine and they didn't say anything about that. Just that they're stainless and rust resistant.

I will see what my Repot Depot offerings are in the staple dept. Going to get stapler soon. Need to order material as well.

Rust resistant, not proof.

"No, no, no, Sonybrow much better quality"

T50 3/8 Inch (10mm) Monel staples 1000PK
Monel® staples
Leg length: 3/8" (10mm)
Crown width: 3/8" (10mm)
Pack Size: 1,000
100% corrosion resistant staple
Ideal for Marine or outdoor use
Monel is used extensively for much of the finished
hardware in the Marine trade. It is also used
extensively in areas that are exposed to salt and
other corrosive air.
Monel is superior to stainless steel in that stainless
steel will oxidize, rust and corrode when exposed to
certain corrosive air.
Flat crown
