Any interest in fiberglass hoods or powder coating?

The skin idea is nice. What would REALLY be cool would be to use a Hybrid Kevlar/Carbon fabric. I saw some once. It is awesome looking. Makes a black and yellow part that would be awesome on a yellow XP! Here is a carbon/red aramid (Kevlar) fabric. http://www.acpsales.com/Carbon-Aramid-Red-Fabric.html Here is yellow Kevlar http://www.carbonfiberglass.com/composite-materials/Kevlar-Fabric They are expensive, but actually cheaper than pure carbon fiber fabric.

But in reality, it will still be quite a challenge to layup a hood and keep the visible layer sharp looking without bunching or wiggly fibers. But you could test your skills out with glass first before you try a carbon one.

that does look really sick

What will you be charging for powder coating?

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

its most likely going to be a flat price per part. i've got pretty much every 2 stroke part that i'm going to be coating coming up for personal and flip projects so i'll have definitive number here very soon. its a matter of powder cost and how much it costs to bake the parts. case halves will obviously take longer to bake than just a head. i'll have a color swath and price sheet up by beginning of feb. i might make a separate post on it.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see to much of a difference in a much more expensive carbon fiber hood, and say this...

Is that skinned or vinyl? And yes I agree 400-500 (which is what they'd need to cost for me to make a profit) for a pure cf hood is insane. A skinned fiberglass would probably be more in line with a good used hood, I'm still running numbers on that tho.

And I've seen the dip too, problem with dip is I'm not sure how well the dip will hold up to elements.

Yeah this is a purple single gauge hood that was dipped. This one was all faded, I cleaned it up and knocked the dirt off of it and dropped it off. This thing should last a very very long time. It has a clear coat finish on it. Cost was $150 for the prep, dip, and clear finish. Guy said it would last as long as car paint and you could wax it.

Too bad I sold it with that ski. Lol

I'd be in for 2 single or dual gauge hoods depending on the price. Carbon fiber would be amazing, but I'm assuming out of my range.

Im in too! I have a few on request with KTM but I dont know if they will ever get done. Even then, I'd still prob buy one. ESP if you get into CF.

And dont worry about getting hassled...no one ever had patients on these parts. I'd make that mold directly off Matts if he will borrow it to you and make the dual gauge hoods. You dont necessarily have to use both, but it gives you the option.

Thats the hood I was thinking of! Couldnt remember who made it. I'd love to get a replica of it.
