First.. I have a couple questions for you.

1. Are you the original owner or is this a recent purchase?
2. If you recently bought it.. how much did you pay for it?
3. How much are you budgeting for any mods?

Let me know this and I will point you in the right direction.

Pump verses engine?....

With the age of the ski, the engine size.....I'd say you should leave the motor alone and go with the pump. Try the R&D Hydro-Force Exit Nozzle that Riva offers.

The 657 is already a pretty good kickin engine ........and was a really hot one back in the day. But, when you mod these things out, you greatly reduce the longevity of the motor.........so, go with the pump.

Here's a link.....take a look!.. http://www.rivayamaha.com/RivaStore/product_page.asp?Category=Sea-Doo Pump Nozzle Kits

to answer stunnerable it is a recent purchase I bought it for 500 with the trailer and it ran great last year but me and a budd think the sleeve is corroded not letting the impellar move. so we are ripping it apart tonight. I am pretty sure it already has a R&D exit nozzle casue it is not stock and the guy used to race with it back in the day. I have a couple hundred dollars every couple weeks to throw into it.

Got you.. I was just curious how much you had tied up in it. My first response is the one your not going to like.. Save that couple hundred every couple weeks until you have about $1,000 then sell the 93 and get the FAR superior 96 XP. If you spent $1000 on your 93 it still wouldn't be what a stock 96 is. If you MUST keep your 93 then I would start with flame arrestors and a new prop. Maybe a higher compression head and a carb tune... the thing is.. your still riding a 93 hull and they are slide machines.

alright so yes I MUST keep the 93 lol... we ripped the motor apart today and founf that the piston skirt on one of the pistons had broken off and both pistons and sleeves were scored not bad but enough. so now I am not sure what to do. I looked at SBT for just getting a new motor and then saw that full bore had topend kits and i could get a really nice topend for aroun395 or a regular 1.0mm over rebuild for 295 or a complete longblock for $799 from full bore and 749 from SBT. What would you guys do?? I like this ski.. I am just ready to ride it..

top end verses engine?...

This is a good question. You'd think you could get away with just a top end rebuild kit but for me, the issue is, what you don't know about the bottom end.

I'd personally go with the new remanfactured motor. I know what it's like to be attached to an older ski. I have 3 of them. And don't want a 4-TEC. Yeah, I'd like to ride one but love the simplistic design of my older stuff.

You'll hear some good and some bad from SBT. I've personally had good experiences with them but there are a few that have had some things not so good to say. They have honored their warranty with me, with no problems. I've only had 2 send backs......I think that's a pretty good track record.

Anyway, you have several different ways of approaching this. If you pulled the motor and took measurements on your bearing end play,...etc, you might be able to go with just a top end kit.

I say go for the SBT motor. Remember, the more you mod an engine the shorter the lifespan will be. This is even more critical with the older skis because the performance to cost ratio. For instance, if you buy a new SBT engine and throw $500 worth of mods into the engine you'll see some gains but now you have about $1500 tied up in a ski that will still be embarrassed by an 800 X4 that costs the same amount stock... and thats not taking into consideration what you paid for the ski. If I were you and I was set on my ski I would keep it stock. Knowing the 93 XP well.. it would be smart to at least throw an intake grate and sponsons on there. If you keep it stock and make sure those carbs are in good working order, that ski will last years to come. I guess my point is, it would be foolish to mod a 93 XP unless you have super deep pockets and you just don't care. Otherwise, if you are into modding.. take my advise and look into an 800 X4 hull. Yeah, I am persistent. But I know my stuff. Good luck!
