another question for my 97 challenger 1800, rpm

the boat has twin engines.

Port works great it will hit 7000 rpms no problem. The starboard engine will not get above 5000 rpms unless I jack the throttle several times.

The marina said it was the stator and replaced it.....same problem

Then they said the engine needed replacement and replaced the engine...same problem.....yah I no longer go to them now.

I took it someone who works on jet skis and boats and he looked at the old stator (i still have it) and he said it was perfectly fine. he also tried to solve the problem and after exhaustive diving into the engine compartment he thinks its the electronic module. The problem is if I buy the module and that does not solve the problem there goes another $1400 not to mention it is not made any more which makes it hard to find.

Any suggestions would be so very much appreciated.

Ummm..did you rebuild the carbs and verify the accelerator pumps are working? I'd also clean & inspect the rave valves and the water regulators...

Also, there's a recall for that boat to have the rave valves updated, did you do that?

Yep the carb was rebuilt...I do not know if the rave valves were checked but what the heck that would be cheaper to pull, check and possibly clean than buying another new part that is not needed.

actually I would think the marina that replaced the engine would had cleaned and/or replaced the rave valves.

The marina probably screwed you... sorry..

I doubt they did anything except sell you a new engine and re-used the rave valves and other parts/pieces of the old engine and now you have the same issue.

I'd take it somewhere else, and have those items checked. I believe the recall actually deals with this particular issue, but you'll need to look in to that. A good mechanic should be able to do a plug chop and see if the boat is running lean or rich and check those other items..

i am going to clean the rave valves this weekend, as some of you guys suggested. i also ordered carb rebuild kits... but i am going to see if the rave cleaning fixes this issue before pulling the carbs (hopefully i can postpone that until i have more time or end of season)

please let me know if the cleaning the rave valves work....I am going to do the same before i risk taking it to another dealer only to lose more money and still have the same problem....but I wont be able to get to it until august...I still have a job and I want to keep it in this economy

the "recall", is to bump up the pilot jet, to i believe a 67, and install the new "upgraded" raves, that have slots.

pull the raves, see if the valves have 2-slots, on each. If not, seadoo wont recall, since too old. The original owner at the time, should have done it, when contacted by seadoo.

just the valves. Try with the red dots, turned(c.c.) a few clicks, see if it helps.

Sorry to keep bothering you with questions but I am trying to figure out if I need new raves or not. I pulled the raves out of both engines and now I'm more confused than ever. One set has two grooves that go from top to bottom, one groove on each side. The other set are flat on both sides. The strange part is all four valves have 353 stamped on them. And stranger yet, the engine that hangs up at 5000 RPM's sometimes, is the one that had the valves with no grooves. So when people talk about the updated valves, are they talking about the two grooves that go top to bottom or some different slots that neither of mine have? I'm going to try and clean up all four because they are all dirty but if that doesn't fix my problem, I didn't know if should replace all four or just two. Also do the SBT raves have slots that fix it or just the OEM brand? Thanks.
