Anodes..WHERE??

our 97 sportster that we just got, seems to have only been used in fresh water. i say that due to practically every service, in and out, looking pretty much like new and mirror finished (will post pictures when we are done doin it up!). but we will want to take it out in the gulf a bit... and i know in the guide i downloaded, there are the little like oval anodes around the rear of the boat, primarily around the jet mouth and reverse plate and housing. after looking a great deal, i may be wrong, but our entire rear, or a good part of it, seems to possibly have been updated/upgraded to NON metallic material, like a carbon fiber or soemthing like that. so, with that in mind, would that be why i can not find these little zinc pieces? and there are none that i can see under the boats intake area, or in the engine compartment if i knew where they would be. if i do in fact need them, where do i get them? cost? where do they mount and how? thanks

The factory anode will be bolted under the the ride plate. It's on one of the bolts holding the cover over the speedo sender hole. (you don't have a speedo, so it's on the block-off)

If you are going to be in salt water... I would recommend buying a few small, universal anodes, and bolting them to the pump.

thanks Dr... where to buy them and WHERE should i put them on the exterior jet rear as well as in/on the engine. appreciate the suggestions and help greatly!

Any boat shop will sell universal anodes. It will look like a very thick washer. Since you are in FL... I'm sure you have a boat shop around.

hey Dr. thanks for all the help and forgive my nievety and as soon as i get more up to speed i will surely be of more help here as i have some good skills.... back to anodes... so, once one gets them, where do they go? hey Dr... anorther thing, i got the oil u suggested at walmart..omg..they have such a great marine aisle.. we got all we needed; the stern light, anchor kit, even the cover!!!! only 60 bucks!, emergecny oar, fuel stabil, and other stuff for the boat...wow all we need get online now is the bimini and the hydo turf kit... oh, back to the oil. you said the SILVER pwc one which was 10 bucks less the FULLY synth oil... which u said would be fine since my 717 didnt have the rave valves in which case i WOULD have had to get the fully synth oil...correct? just making sure i am learning well from you pros here!

and i am sorry to ask, but, can u direct me where or who, in here can help me with what i see as a possible problem with the fuel guage/oil light... gas is fill to the brim, oil is maxd, but the guage doesnt seem to work, just a bit it moved above the E but nothing more. i looked at the fuse for the guages, fine. went to the wiring behind the steering console and dont know where to go from there. i am good with a meter if i know what to look for. the guage seems to have 3 pairs of colored wire ( six wires in total plus the single wire NOT part of the plug but from the wiring bundle from behind the guage), a blueish, pinkish, and another color with a stripe, as well as a single light blue wire. have no idea where to go from there. thanks again!

For the fuel gauge problem. It might be a internal wire/diode but most likely it the float. Just buy a new one or a used one of the newer model type. Send a private message to minnetonka4me and see if he or his brother has one

Kidding aside, SDB is right, it's probably just the float, they lose the magnets or just sink.

Some wal-Mart's still have a good marine section... but most have eliminated it.

OIL: From your comment, it sounds like you got the wrong oil. QuickSilver makes 2 different "PWC" oils. One is full Synth, and one is semi-Synth. Did the oil you buy have a big "PWC" on the front? If not, you bought the TC-w3 outboard oil, and that is NOT GOOD for your engine.

Fuel: there is a 90% chance that it's the sender in the tank. The original senders were made from high density foam, and they don't like the new fuels with alcohol in them... and they sink. Replace it with a new style float (Blow molded) and I'm sure that the gauge will work again. BUT... to make sure... disconnect the wires at the sender, and short them together. The gauge should go to "Full."

the oil... NO.... i got the silver one WITH the BIT PWC on the front... NO tc-w3 label.. i saw that one too.. i got the EXACT silver one that you told me... it was 10 bucks cheaper than the full synth.they were side by side. seems walmart nicely places them in order of cost. i checkd it for 10 minutes at the store making sure it was exactly what u told me. i am sure i got the right one; the other one, which would have been wrong, HAD a TC-W3 on the front label so i knew that was NOT the oil. thanks buddy! cant wait to check that simple float gauge test out... YOURE THE MAN and this forum is AWESOME! oh...and back on the oil... the FULL synth ALSO had PWC on the front and was in a BLACK jug not silver.. so i knew i could use THAT one, but it was 38$, the other, right next to it, was 28, silver jug and and PWC as well as the API-TC on the front. i make shit sure of that !

Just to clear things up, I'm the one who told you about the oil at Walmart, because you specifically asked about buying oil at either Walmart or Auto Zone. I'm pretty sure, from previous posts, that Dr Honda uses Seadoo XPS full synthetic, correct me if I'm wrong.

thanks Lou... been getting so many, so much, helpful replies and post i havent kept track as to 'who' said what.... but i DID get what you told me i should... it was you, i think, that since my boat did NOT have rave valves, i didnt need FULL synth so the grade right below that, the quicksilver silver jug pwc api-tc is what i got. thanks!

Tony, it really doesn't matter, I was only trying to make a point that there is more than one oil brand to use, in fact I've got the name and address of where you buy your XPS oil and am seriously ordering some when I run out of the Quicksilver. I think that SeaDoo XPS is the preferred oil to use, I've just never been able to buy it at a decent price. The XPS is manufactured by Castrol in my opinion the best oil company in the world.

I'm not really trying to step on any one's toes especially yours. The poster simply asked is there an oil available at Walmart, so I advised him about the Quicksilver PWC. I really wasn't trying to take undue credit or blame. I probably just shouldn't have said anything.
