An interesting problem! Could it be from overfilling the gas tank?

I have a 2003 Seadoo GTX Supercharged Limited Edition. I brought it out of winterization (dealer performed and they did an oil change at that time) a few weeks ago and ran it for a little over an hour to get the fogging oil out and to burn off some of the old gas. It ran great. I then took it to have the spark plugs changed and have the ski looked over by the dealer. On the way home today from the dealer I took it to the lake for a quick test and make sure everything checked out.

Here's what happened:
I started it up and was idling away from the landing. After about a minute I started into the throttle and the error late came on with the low oil pressure warning displayed on the screen and it was running rough. I immediaetly shut it off. Waited a few minutes turned it back on and it gave the same error. Started it one more time to get back to the dock and it did the same thing. I waited about five minutes and tried again same thing. (Whenever the message would come on I would shut it down immedieatly.)

I was starting to load it on the trailer and then rembered I just bought gas and topped it off (literally) and really screwed down the gas cap very very tight (ocd). I opened the gas cap and screwed it back on stopping tightening it after the first click. Started it up and everything was fine. Let it idle for a few minutes around the landing and everything was fine. Ran it for a couple minutes and it was fine. Went back to the loading area and a man put in his boat to run it for a little to make sure it was running fine after some repairs he made. I decieded to take it back out for a little and me and the guy I just met were going to stay in the same area to help each other out should one of us break down. I ran it at WOT for a minute and cruised at different RPM's and it ran fine. I put probally 10-15 minutes and about 6 miles and it did fine.

My questions:
1.) Could topping off the fuel and/or overtightening the gas cap cause the ski to do this.
2.) Should I take it back to the dealer to have them look at it? (The oil level is fine and still looks like new oil.)
3.) Would this error message have been equivalent to a car starting to cut off and the lights on the dash coming on?
4.) Did I possibly do any damage to the engine?

Slightly off topic:
Is it normal for the little "check engine light" in the lower right corner to light up when you but the key in and then go back out? Just haven't payed attention.

Sorry for the long story but wanted to give as much info as possible. If you need any more info just ask.

Thanks,

Joshua

When I had the supercharger out, the tech said it was best to fix both the oil switches right there and then. They were a leak issue. Seems like one of them did leak and dumped oil into the intakes which explained the smoke and the fouled plugs. I know for sure one of them was the oil pressure switch but not sure what the other was exactly. When the oil pressure switch goes, it puts you in limp home mode.

Oil Pressure Sensor's

My plugs weren't fouled when I took it in. No smoke or anything. I just replaced the plugs because it was the beginning of the season.

Aklim,
How much did they charge you to replace both? Can it be done witout pulling the supercharger?

Should I run it another time and see if it acts up again or just take and have the dealer look over it?

Thanks,

Joshua

Fine. That tells me that little to no oil leaked into the engine. OTOH, it is meaningless from the standpoint that there could still be something wrong with that sensor. My sensor leaked but didn't register a code

My price is meaningless since I had the supercharger out at the time and it was easier to get to. Also, I have a SeaDoo tech working for me on the side so that again is easier. I was charged $250. That included 2 switches and changing out all the fluids so there is nothing waiting for me to do. Just get out and ride. To give you an idea, the supercharger itself is $250 to do around here.

I don't know. Me, I would ask them how much to change both switches and be done with it. I don't want to be in the middle of BFE when it breaks. Ever notice how things don't break when it is convenient?

The pressure switches are a common failure but they aren't known to leak on their own. They cost about $25 each and are a simple fix, the front one is super easy, 2 minutes, and the rear one is a little tricky to get to but not difficult overall with the right extension and socket length. They are not in the supercharger area and no other components have to be removed.
The failure you describe sounds typical for the pressure switches failure.

Thanks Guys

Just got the ski back from the dealer with a replaced oil sensor. I took it out on the water for about 10 minutes on the way home and it was running good. I appreciate the advice, it sent me into the dealership with a little bit of knowledge.

Thanks,

Joshua

Replaced one!

They only replaced one. It was the one near the top of the engine towards the front of the craft. I told them to replace them both, but they said they were only getting an error off the one at the front of the engine and didn't want to "replace something that didn't need it". I never recieved an error on the display but they said it showed an error so does that mean they get more faults hooking it up to a computer than the display will give?

I wish they would have done both, but I wasn't going to push the issue. It was $29.99 for the part and $38.00 for half an hour of labor. I felt that was a fair price. I should have changed it myself but these things intimidate me for some reason.
