I want to add an accessory battery to my 2008 WakePro so I can run a pump to blow up tubes, play music, or charge up phones/devices. I saw some slick systems for later model jetskis, but was wondering what possible issues I could run into just slapping a second battery in there and piggybacking off the current electrical system?

More amp draw from the charging system, in the automotive world a heavy duty alternator is the norm for running two batteries.

Thank you for the knowledge. Since I have a dual battery setup in my Challenger 180, which uses the same stator as my Wake 215, could it be strong enough to handle two of the smaller PWC batteries? It would stand to reason that since it can charge two much larger boat batteries that it is putting out enough energy to handle my power needs, correct?

The charging system is 30 amps , less load is always better but it should be okay. If you use a dual battery isolator then the main battery would always be ready for starting the engine.

Lead acid batteries only accept 10 amps of charge and a AGM 15 amps. It would be easier on your charging system if you had the bigger amp hour batteries in your jet ski. More amp storage. Weight and size of the battery are more of an issue on a jet ski than a boat, hence the smaller batteries . Yes it is a 30 amp system but a magneto flywheel alternator max amp output is around 20 to 25 amps at the higher rpm range. So you can plan for around 5 to 15 amps at the lower rpm range. You now need to add up your new accessory amp draw and compare with the amp/ hour rating of the new battery. This would give you the amount of time you can run your new accessories without any alternator charging. Ski not running. Anytime thereafter (ski running) and your total amp draw exceeds alternator output your batteries are discharging eventually causing a drop in voltage which your jet ski would not like. Isolation of the new battery system would be encouraged but your alternator would still be asked to charge both systems.

This is far more information than I thought possible. I think I will just go with an aux battery that I will charge prior to heading out for the day. The possible strain on the stock charging system and the chance of it failing while out at some point is enough to make me keep everything separate. Thanks for the mind boggling info.
