Ok, so this might be a confusing question, but if someone could help me out i would appreciate it. I have a 99spx and am having trouble getting it started. I put a new starter in it at the beginning of this year. It ran fine for a while and then it quite on me again. When i try to start it, it just gives me a fast consistant clicking sound. But the starter will not turn over. I had the starter tested and it is fine. When i am trying to start it the negative on the battery is also getting very hot. Im stuck, could it possibly be something electrical??? Again any help is appreciated, or even somewhere to start looking for problems. Thanks

Either you battery is dieing, or the connections of your cables are dirty/loose.

I would start with putting a meter on the battery terminals, and hit the go button. It should stay in the 11v range. If it's dropping below that... buy a new one. (this is assuming your starter in good)

The battery is brand new. That was the first thing that i tried. So a loose connection could cause the clicking noises?? I believe the clicking is coming from the starter relay. And i know the relay is good also. So as far as a bad connection where should i start??

Hot ground wire usually equals bad ground somewhere. Start with checking and cleaning the black connections but I would do the hot ones too. The wires can also rot from the inside out (looking at the connector can fool you into thinking all is well) so cutting the end off and re-fastening a new connector can solve that as well.

The grounds at the engine connection are notorious for becoming loose or corroded on these things

good luck
