RESTO 99 SPX Resto

Motor and exhaust will be sand blasted and painted. I have new harnesses and switches, new sponsons too. Also have a minty handlebar pad. All that is left is the seat and motor. Give us a few weeks and she will be done.

Top end will be going to full bore and new oem rebuilt crank from shs

The motor that was in it runs but was out of a 96 xp/gsx/gtx. It is white and has no plug for the counter balancer. We have another 98 spx motor for a rebuild.

It's looking better that when it was on the showroom floor! I hope I can make my 98 look that good one day keep up the killer work

Subscribing, Looks awesome!! Can you take extra pics when doing the seat and how you dealt with the hump? I have to replace the exact same one, and any tips along the way will make it that much better!

Keep it going!

This is not a part of this restoration but it is worth posting. A while back racerxxx made block off plates and sandblasted his carbs, well I have a couple sets where the paint was really bad and there is corrosion on the outside. So I asked racer if I could use his set, at the time Minnetonka4me had them. So I asked him if he could make me a set and he did. I got them last week and today after work I got to work blasting them. I would have done them sooner but our water seperator broke so I had to buy a new one.

I am going to give them a once over with the sandblaster to get the little areas that I missed.

I actually used fine glass bead on this. The glass bead will not take off powder coating or thick paint well, but it works great on these carbs.

On the two set I've done I strip the carbs down completely and keep the ends off but tape them up. In this pic you can see where they were taped off. I want to be sure to get all the oxidation off them. I just used duct tape IIRC. But same thing with the pump housing etc... And for the High and low speed needles I just jam a q-tip in there. (Sorry for my pics in your thread)

BTW, they look good, and I just use duct tape as gaskets for the end plates.

Post all the pics you want. Instead of q-tips I used smaller vacuum plugs and flipped them around and wedged them in there. I was going to use q-tips but did not have any at the warehouse so I improvised. I took the diaphram plate off and put duct tape on the inside. It has a breather hole and I did not want any sand sliding in through there.

Ooh how I love this! My second favorite X4. Man I should have purchased 20 sets of XP800 decals back in the day. I could make a mint!!

I am keeping it for my personal use. Right now I am waiting for parts to come in. We ordered a rebuilt oem crank from shs powersports for 351.99. We ordered a counterbalancer from sbt and then we have the top end out at lakes powersports. Next weekend the motor will be going togethor. All parts will be sandblasted this weekend

I just ordered a set of black cut groove hydroturf mats from pwcmuscle, I figure it is about time we give some money to the site sponsors. Plus the 15% off is nice.

Haha I just knew you wouldn't be letting this one out of your hands. So are you going to sacrifice one if your other skis to make room for this one?

It will be done soon. We have the crank and I think the top end is done just waiting pick up and the counter balancer will be here Tuesday. So in the mean time I have been sand blasting parts and getting them ready for paint.

I bought 8 cans of silver wheel paint by duplicolor that racerxxx uses. So I should have enough to paint all the exhaust and the motor when that is done.

Next weekend there should be a bunch of updates.
