Gents;

Went out last night to do some fishing, when i went to start my boat only the port side engine started up. The starboard finally started after about 5 minutes of on/off starting it, just wouldn't turn over.... fixes?

Next

After both engines now working the speedo didn't register the speed....I was like WTF......all night the speedo just didn't move from 0mph.

Also my gas gauge has never registered since i bought it last year. No idea how to fix this.?

HELP!

I would check the little paddle wheel under the jet pump to see if someone is living in there and preventing it from spinning. That's what the speedo reads.

There are a few threads on the gas gauge fix. Most likely the float in the tank has gone bad. You can buy a replacement for $20.

Here is some information on the fuel guage problem;

Checking sending unit resistance

You need to check the Pink and Pink/Black wire coming out of the baffle tube in the gas tank. The sending unit works off resistance. Pull the plug apart at the tank, and use an ohm meter to check for resistance between the two pink wires. The resistance will be different depending on how much fuel is in the fuel tank. If you get no resistance, remove the clamps off the sender, and pull the sending unit out of the fuel tank. Check the magnets on the float in the sending unit. To get to the float out, pop the bottom off and look for the 4 magnets on the float. If they are missing use a strong magnet to get them out of the tank bottom. If they are dirty clean them and re-insert it back in the baffle tube and check the wires again to check for readings of resistance depending on where the float is in the baffle tube. Check the float to see if it “floats” in a cup of gas. Sometimes the float becomes saturated and won’t float in gas…but it will in water, so use gas to check it. If still no reading of resistance replace the sender. If you get readings, check continuity of wiring to gauge. At the baffle you could un plug the guage and using a jumper wire between the 2 wires in the plug on the guage side. Attach the lanyard to power up the gauges. If the guage goes to full the guage is good. If it still doesn’t respond, do a continuity test of the wires to the guage. If all wiring checks out ok, and the guage still doesn’t respond, the gauge is bad. Keep me posted on your progress.

More information on your speedo;

Spedo restiance
For the Speedo on the rear of the boat is a sender that uses a little wheel with 3 wires. 2 are for the the speed, and 1 is for temp. if your boat is equiped with the temp. quage. Using a multi meter attached to 2 of the wires, and spin the wheel you seed read restiance depending on how fast you spin the little wheel. Then check contunity on the wires to the guage. If it isn't reading it might be a broken wire. If it sends a signal to the guage, the guage is bad.

...well more bad news.
I been still going out with no gas/speedo gauges. After having a great day in the sun on the way back into the slip the port side motor was spudering. The oil light came on, but my oil was good...gas good. I tried restarting the port side motor...NO DICE.
I had to get towed into a marina. It sucked!'

I need some quick tips on things that I could check to get it working again.
I need to switch plugs first off.
It engine turns over but it wont just won't fire up.
The starboard side one works fine. :mad:

I am having a tough go right now with this boat.

Before anyone of the above steps, make sure you check your fuses. All of my gauges were dead until I swapped out the damn fuse...

Ok, new plugs new filter, fuses are good.

The left side motor won't start. Turns over like it's going to fire but it doesn't.

I don't get it...it ran fine all day until we were coming and it just spudered.

I'm thinking its a carb thing but I'm a little scared to dive into that ball of wax.

I noticed the throttle level isnt as "sticky" as the right one.
The right is a little harder to push and thats the one that works fine. I doubt it has anything to do with this I'm just throwing it out there.

same thing happend to me and I had to suck the gas line ( careful with this ) to get the fuel to start back sending to the carb.
