Trying to solve how why water/oil is in crank case of 1999 GTI.
I would guess the crankcase is 80% full. In order to get to the crank area I had to remove the top end & at every step I was checking for a failed gasket or a crack in the cylinder jug or exhaust manifold thus allowing water coolant to enter the firing chambers. I didn't find any evidence of something failed that would allow the above to occur.
Thus, I'm $tempted to remove the water/oil in the crank & put it back together because I can't seem to figure out what failed to allow this to happen. Is there a seal in the crankcase between the 2 connecting rods. So if I removed oil/water from under 1 connecting rod should that change the level under the other connecting rod. I plan to use a small hose & pump to suck up the oil/water from the crankcase so I don't have to split it open.
Coincidentally the oil reservoir tank was replaced last summer. Ever since the new oil tank was installed the motor seems to create alot of smoke upon starting it. I wonder if some kind of check valve was not re-installed or is failing in the oil lines from oil tank to motor. That is assuming there is some kind of in-line check valve in the oil lines.
