Early last year I purchased a 1999 Seadoo GSX RFI, and it has been confusing me ever since so I thought I would ask a couple questions here.

First off, I don't believe I have a fuel injection set up, hopefully someone can confirm from the pictures I'll add. I replaced the magneto stator and found a trigger coil in the assembly, not pictured in the 99 GSX service manual. I used the coil from the 99 GSX limited and it fired right up. After fuel filters and lines it runs like a charm, but I don't know what it is.

The main mystery to me is the Vin number, the Vin plate does not look tampered with, it looks like a standard Seadoo Vin plate from 1999, the Vin is
ZZN05638R913, my dealer said something about it being a "research and development" Hull but I'm not sure on that. Does anyone know if the Vin plate for 2013 looked any different then this?

Thank you for any help, stay safe this summer and enjoy the water

Well you have quite the mess there.
The ski is clearly a 1999 GSX RFI or Rotax Fuel Injection but someone has put in a carbureted engine and even worse is running the bad gray fuel lines.

Second that is a 2013 VIN tag so it has been tampered with and is not legal. I would never believe the research ski bull crap because manufacturers can’t sell them for legal reasons and are required to destroy them.

It’s pretty easy to drill out and replace 2 rivets if you are illegally selling skis.

Checking back at my receipts i should have known it had carbs, when I got it running and checked compression and was confident it was still strong i took it to the dealer to do fuel an oil lines and filter an they also rebuild the carbs. The pictures are from last summer when I picked it up.

I was worried about it being a stolen vin plate. The fact that I picked it up in Northern Ontario Canada with Florida Registration stickers supports that, but I ran all the old numbers and it didn't come back stolen, and I had no problems registering and getting my own number in Ontario so at this point I'm not too worried about it. I only believed the R&D nonsense was because the Shop that mentioned it had nothing to do with the sale.

If you ever get around to it, you could pull the motor, drain and pull the gas tank to see the hidden HIN plate underneath the tank. They put a second HIN there encase of theft. Found the second HIN plate on both of my skis when I had the tanks out. Pic of my GSX where it's located.
