1998 Seadoo XP Limited. Curious if the spacing between the carrier seal and driveshaft are correct in this picture.

The bearings have been getting hot even in water and replacing the seal. After 15 min riding on the water the ski appears to cavitate or lose power intermittently higher than 5000rpms. But fine the first 15 min of riding. Only appears when ski is warmed up.
The seal previous to this picture was pushed as far forward as possible, so that the 2 metal pieces were touching. I can’t find a picture online or the correct placement but assuming it should be as far back like I have it now in this picture. And yes, they are appropriately greased. Thanks for any input!

That is not a stock piece of rubber hose on the seal bearing and they are too close together. I would get the correct rubber part.

Thank you for reply.

How much spacing is normal?

I bought 2 seal carriers with rubber (on accident) and got 2 different rubber. I installed the larger and stronger one. Guess I will switch to the other. But how much space should I be seeing?

Thanks again.
So I switched out to the other rubber. Please review pic and tell me if this looks correct.

Additionally, when I pulled the carrier seal to replace the rubber I noticed the bearings are now more forward then originally. What would cause them to move?
I switched out to the new carrier seal but am worried something is causing the bearing to move and that is why they are getting hot and causing thrust loss at high rpm?

Not sure about the bearings moving but you can pop the seals out by adding too much grease.
