hi i posted previously and got a couple answers but the thread died. i was having some issues with my port engine and thought it was the carbs which def there was 1 clogged filter and just took it out for a test ride today and it ran 10 times better. it jumped right out of water got it to about 54 mph with 4 people on boat. but when i first dropped it in it was very hard to start that engine and it was smoking a decent amount. even after an hour ride when i got back to the dock it was still smoking and i shut it off while i was puling up my trailer and could not get that one engine started again. i checked compression after my last ride and i got about 150 in all cylinders. just trying to see what to look for. i want to get this boat straightened out before the season is here. thanks in advance

When mine runs rough, I throw in new plugs and it cures most problems. If the carbs are rebuilt, how's the rest of the fuel system? Still running the oil injection?

Smoke is oil... it's as simple as that. AND... if it was smoking the entire time... then the plugs will be fouled. I would make sure the pump is set up properly... and if it is... then the RV seals in the center of the engine are totally gone.

im not sure if it was smoking the entire time it was actually dark out but most likely was. im sure youre right about the plugs being fouled most likely the reason it wouldnt start back up. what do you mean by set up the proper way. today i will take a look at the plugs test the spark and also go thru the oil lines, also look thru the oil feed system. what does RV stand and it that really a pain in the ass to fix if that is my problem. im also going to swap out my inline fuel filters and Rfoster yes im still running the injection system, figured it would be a pain to premix 40 gallons or would mix well enough in the tank it self

i took a look i think the little plunger on the accelerator pump is a little stuck. do you think this coould be causing all my problems- hard to start and rough idle but runs good at high speeds? when i took the carbs apart i was a little skeptical about pulling it apart it looked like a gasket and wasnt coming apart easily and i didnt want to rip it without having a new one on hand. tommorow i will pull this apart and hopefully can get this thing straightened out asap. and this would also make sense if im not getting enough gas at idle it would be getting a little ectra oil causing more smoke. any input on my thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

I spent all last season trying to dial in the carbs on my port motor. Only to find out that it WAS the accelerator pump. On mine< the fuel inlet check valves (where the lil 1/8 line runs from the acc pump back to the carb) were to blame. One was broken and the other has a stuck ball. Its easy to take the ACC pump apart. Its just a simple diaphram under the four screws. Check that diaphram. Then, using a compressor with a blow tip, blow thru the 90degree fuel inlet check valves to clean them out. Use some carb cleaner and wear eye protection.
And deffin clean out your RVs=Rave Valves.... Pop in some new plugs and see how it runs.

A darker colored smoke would be oil. Whiter smoke is usually water.
