Hey all,

Since the start of this season, I have had an issue when I take back the throttles from full speed the engines cut out. All I have needed to do is adjust the lanyard a bit and the engines start right back up. Well today I went to pull my boat out of the lake (to fix this issue and a cavatation problem) as I was starting the engines (one did start, both turned over) they cut out and will not respond to reseating the lanyard, I can no longer start my motors and I have plenty of battery.

I read up on some other people's issues with the lanyard, and or starting, it seems as though I have the more security based DESS system which will not allow me to bypass.

I have checked all the fuses in the engine compartment, all were fine but are now reseated (didn't see any behind the drivers console).

I beleive this problem could be multiple things, lanyard, connector for lanyard or maybe another spot in the electrical system that I'm not aware of. Any assistance with troubleshooting would be great...I don't know how I will test to find the problem.

Thanks

So cleaning it with a wirebrush was my first thought and then cleaned with alchohol, this didn't work. Today after it sat in the sun for a few hours, I came home from work and it will turn over, I would guess its a moisture problem somewhere as the parts are getting old, its a 98.

I think I am going to go around the security system and spray some silicone, perhaps around lanyard connector and inside that electrical box near the engine compartment. But, I still believe I probably have something associated to the lanyard and the DESS thats going bad that should be replaced.

I have looked on the fische for my boat and I can not find the lanyard on the diagrams, does any one know where I can see this system in the fische?

I think replaing the lanyard at this point due to it having that micro chip is my best bet, I am unaware of what this will cost or what I'm in for getting a new chip programed by a dealer.

The dealer here wants like 30 to program one. You can buy them on ebay for like 40 bucks.
