I'm new to Seadoo jet boats, but own a couple Seadoo PWC. I just convinced the wife to let me purchase a jet boat and I'm looking at the Speedster line. I found a couple 98/99 Speedsters and a few earlier models, but have a couple questions for those in the know.

I understand the 98/99s have twin 110s and the earlier models have smaller motors. However, the newer ones are also a foot or so longer. Is there a significant difference in handling, speed, performance between them. Have ppl found the seat configuration in either boat better?

I'm looking to do a mix of everything on the boat...cruise around, maneuver, go fast, pull tubes, etc. I don't need anything that holds more than 4 ppl.

Thanks for your comments.

My only experience is with the 98. I cant really compare to the smaller boats but i can tell you why i went with the 98 and why i think its the best choice. 4 People is pushing the smaller boats to there limit. Im gonna say 4 adults in the smaller boats will be very underpowered. Even 4 in the 98 is a lot sometimes if they are bigger people. The 98 and up speedsters give you 4 individual bucket seats. The smaller boats have the bench type seat where you end up on each others lap.

The power of the twin 110's cant be beat. I can top out around 54 mph with 2 people or 50ish with 4. Handling is awesome. It will pull a tube no problem. I really think the 16ft speedsters are the best of the smaller boats.

Great, Thanks for the reply RFoster. I have admired your boat from afar, and hope to find/modify one in a similar fashion (HT, stereo, etc).

Now I just have to locate one in a relatively close distance and spend some hrs tooling...I'm not the most mechanically inclined person and have to rely on my bro-in-law for his truck/maintenance skills.

I agree wh Foster. The layout seems to be the best. Just remember the SKs have smaller engines.

I had a 96 Speedster and it was a lot of fun. It is really a 3 person boat. The hull of the 96 isn't quite as V'ed as the 98/99. Making a little bumpier ride but they spin much easier than a 98/99. Not that they are hard either..lol. I never GPS'ed my 96 but I have went 53mph on decent river water (against the current) full of fuel with 3 people and a big cooler of "refreshments" in my 99. As Foster said the seat configuration in the 98/99 is superior. No tto mention there is a little windbreak for the passengers. The 96 will beat you to death with wind. twice as much storage on the new ones and they can be found for under $5000. really no compariosn after owning both IMO.
