Hello,

Longtime Seadoo owner-20 yrs.
Have had a total of five first three were new and I took good care of them and never had any bad problems.

Found a pair of 98’s used GSXL & GTXL for a good price that were neglected and needed some TLC so I rolled the dice and bough them. The first season was tough as I had multiple problems with the biggest one a leak on the GTX that I could not fix. Did everything I could removed pump, intake grate, ride plate, pump shoe (support), scraped and cleaned up everything really good put it back together and it still leaked. Frustrated I took it to a reputable guy and he fixed it, not completely sure what he did. Anyway it worked great for the last two seasons and now I notice it’s cavitating bad. Could only get a 61 mph on the dreamometer

Took it to a reputable shop, he said it’s probably the carbon ring and he replaced it with the older style two bearing type. He also replaced the wear ring and questioned the white one I had in there. I had a SBT rebuild impeller installed previously and I believe it was that type. He put in a OEM wear ring and straightened the prop.

Test ride out and it ran good for ½ the day (68 mph!) then it started cavitating again.

Took it back and he couldn’t find anything wrong with it but when he started the engine he noticed a crank bearing noise and says I need a engine rebuild and he would do it for $1800 1 yr warranty. Took it tot the Seadoo dealer for a second opinion and he verified the noise.

We really like this ski but I’m in a serious quandary.
1) Should I just get rid of it and start over saw a 2007 GTI SE for about $6500 but I’m not in a good position to spend that kind of dough.

2) Park it for the season and wait till the winter when this guy has more time to fix it (he’s buried right now)

3) Fix the cavitation problem first, doesn’t make sense to spen $1800 on the motor if I can’t fix this mysterious cavitation problem. But both mechanics think it’s the fact I took everything apart and I have a air leak problem probably in the shoe area.

Thanks for the reading

68 on the dreamometer....

Probably more like a 63 mph.

I did put in a jet kit and Prok Flame Arrestors that helped.

What happened to your engine and how much to rebuild?

Thanks,

Gary
