So the one problem I am having is finding a new steering cover for my 98 GTS. My beeper was working sporadically at best, so I decided to take the cover off and take a look see. Well, in doing that, the old gummed up cover ripped into atleast 5 pieces on the way off. Now I am going to replace the beeper, but I need a new cover to go back on it. Does anyone make any aftermarket covers for these skis? The only cover I could find at seadoowarehouse was a blue one for a 97 GTS, and its $134. With the way these things gum up and crumble, someone has to be making them aftermarket right?
The other problem is with the cooling system. Today was our 3rd time taking the ski out, so we decided to flip it in shallow water, to be sure we could turn it right side up again. Well we got it turned back over(the correct way mind you) and I was appalled to see the engine compartment full of water up past the crankshaft when I took the seat off. We managed to get it to the trailer and drain the water out, then removed the spark plugs and blew out any water from the cylinders(none come out thankfully) After that she started back up fine. When we got back home, we got to flushing out the ski(ran in brackish water that day) and saw right away the leak coming from the big curved water pipe. Upon further inspection I found it had a hole about the size of your pinky in it, and had been patched with some kind of steel putty in the past, and was now leaking out a steady stream of water, right on top of the battery. We were able to remove the old putty, and this is what I am now faced with.
Any ideas on how to repair that? I have done some pretty neat filling of holes in the past with jbweld, but being as I cant get the other side of the hole, it would just run. I did however find this water weld by JB weld. http://jbweld.net/products/water.php
My father thinks we should use a large short screw, then jb weld around that. Something is on the inside of the pipe however, you can feel it when you insert a screwdriver in the side. it goes in about 1/2'', then hits a wall.
