97+ XP jumping, is it that bad?

I never saw the first post Strizzo, and thanks Squirrel, I'm definitely going carb model, I'll be looking for a 99 or newer, and will prolly never ride two up on it... My biggest problem is going to be finding an XP with a blown 951... I don't really wanna buy one in running condition.

I'm hoping your right, I've seen a couple this year, but that's it... There are a few on CL now but they have no motor or carbs/ exhaust etc....

Ya that's true, just figured by time I had to purchase and track down all those extra parts I would be too upside down... At the start of the summer I passed on a 99 with a blown motor, regretting that now

i was trying to say that the 97+ jump nearly as well as the X4, as long as you can trim all the way up, they land almost vertical so the landing is soft. for higher speed launches off of big waves/wakes, trim down a bit so you don't get kicked over the bars when you land. the longer and narrower hull with a deeper V lets it handle chop better. the GSX is basically a slightly scaled up x4 hull so its better for 2-up riding while giving a similar ride to the x4.

the earlier models were known for breaking the hood gas shock mount. some people said it was due to jumping, but in looking at mine it looks like the standoffs inside the hood get broken off when someone leans on the hood while its open and pushes it too far up. the later models had a different design where the shock pushed directly on the hinge which i think were more durable.
