Just got a 97 xp and knew going into it the guages didn't work and vts didn't work.

got it in the water and it drives and runs great! No issues with the performance.

Now I would like to fix the little things.

No beeps with the Dess key is put on.
The gauges will not wake up when the key is off and the start button is pushed.
checked all the fuses and all were good, but replaced all 4 fuses anyways.(three fuses on the MPEM and one in the box where the coil is)
Double checked all connections on the guages and to the MPEM.
Any idea's why the guages are all dead????

VTS, do the motors usually go? Or the modules? I don't even get a clicking noise when I push the up and down on the trim?

Any help in the right direction would be great.
Thanks

When running, remove head temp sensor wire and ground to a bolt, the buzzer should sound. If not, replace the buzzer. Open the vts oval cover and disconnect
the two motor wires. Use two jumper wires to battery and motor, reversing should turm motor in other direction. Disconnect the fuel/oil gauge power wires and check
with ohm meter for power, traceing harness back til ya do find power. On vts houseing is a square module, if the potting leaked or the rod exterior protection boot
leaked water into the module, replace the vts houseing. Read this:

Thanks for the reply.
OK, so you are thinking all all gauge problems are not related to each other. I was thinking that at first, but found it odd none of them worked, however after reading your post, i will check each gauge individually at their sources as you are suggesting and post my findings.
I can confirm that the VST boot was rotten and definately leaking before I replaced it. I will start with replacing the vts module and motor and go from there.

Thanks
Aaron
