I have a 97 Sea Doo gtx that i bought last summer. It was running good until it just cut out one day on the water and it wont start back up. I checked and it is getting gas but no spark. Any ideas of what I could check or do? Thanks

I'm guessing it's not making the happy chirps when you put the key on? Check your MPEM fuses. If your 5A fuse is blown, you could have the fabled MPEM diode problem. Check the voltage on those fuses when before you put the key on, after, and while you're hitting the start button (just curious, I've had a similar problem and have evaluated said voltages, want to know if you're problem is similar)

Yea it beeps twice when I put the key in. I was thinking it is the trigger coil. Anybody have any experience with those? I checked the ignition coil and it seems to be fine, but the trigger coil I’m barely getting any ohms out of it. And do you have to pull the motor to replace that?

Thats on the stator cover. You can get to it, but on my 97SPX, it's a huge pain in the as*. I had to loosen the front motor mount and lift the engine to get that last bolt out. Have you checked if it's giving a pulse when the engine turns over?

I don't think that's a common component to fail. Have you checked that your Primary coil is grounded? I became the owner of a ski for very cheap b/c the primary coil ground wire was old a corroded. Also, I think you can check your primary coil by measuring the volts on the white wire going to the primary coil and rotating the engine. It should pulse every revolution (I'm not sure if it's going pulse + or - ).

trigger coil is very common failure on the 800, you don't have to pull the motor and you don't have to remove the pipe, just work around it, not too bad, remove air box and plastic tube, remove front motor mount bolt, place piece of wood under engine so the mag cover can be removed.

Is the trigger coil the same as the charging coil? Because every parts place I call they are like what are you talking about.

Thanks for the help guys

most dealers will call it the pickup, or pickup coil, it registers the signal when a magnet in the mag cup rotates by it.

I would test it before removing the cover, like I said, it's a huge pain... and please please check the ground to your primary coil, make sure it's not something simple first.

yea im definatly going to recheck all the simple stuff first before I tear into it. And will let yal know how it goes.

I replaced the trigger coil over the weekend, it wasnt that bad to do. Now it runs great, thanks for the help!

:hurray: Congrats! I'm going to call you if my trigger coil goes out ;) I hate pulling the MAG cover while motor is in ski.
