Hello, i have just discovered i have a "broken" or bad motor mount on my 96XP....rear mount on same side as carbs!! Is it difficult to replace this?? I noticed someone had a thread on here where they actually repaired a bad one...is that an option?? It looks like the two rubber halves just separated or something. Also, i probably rode for a couple of hours with this bad mount, is there anything else i should look for?? The ski ran great and nothing seemed strange. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Russ.

First be sure that only one of the mounts is broken. You may get some advice that if you have one bad one, you may as well replace all 4. When I've had broken mounts I've pulled the engine. At that time you can check the wear ring and see if the driveshaft may have gotten bent.

its unlikely that one bad mount has done any dammage ive riden with 2 bad before now with no affects other that the engine rattling against the broken mount. take the mount off and have alook at it, it is made of rubber with two metal plates glued eather side 9/10 times the top metal plate comes unstuck rather than spending out on a new one just get some two part araldite and glue it back on. i have found it to be stronger than new and much cheaper, i run 4 of these skis and they are bloody expensive to keep replacing at the rate they fail at. ;)

:lol:Everything y'all are saying is true. However if you pull the engine you can get all the crap you've lost under there for the last 15 years.

lol so true!! i cant count how many rusty spanners and spark plugs i have found in the bottom, months after i dropped them.

haha..... so true! everything gets stuck under that motor bracket!! ive got every thing ive ever dropped while working on mine back.. fixing two of my broken motor mounts actually too.....

First of all, let me say thank you to all of you for your reply's. What a cool site to be able to come to and get answers to questions that would otherwise leave me baffled. I agree, i have to keep my costs down too.... I keep having little things pop up on this ski i just bought....fuel line deal and carb clean is done, and now this....arrgghhhh!! Anyway, so what i am looking at on mine appears to be the top circular rubber half has separated from the bottom metal plate, is that what you were referring to also?? If so, what product specifically are you talking about that i can use to glue it back together??? Is there any surface prep that needs to be done first?? How long should it sit before re-installing it?? Damn, i ask a lot of questions don't i??haha. One more i guess, how many mounts are on this engine (96xp)?? I can only find 3 and they all seem to be good. Man, i don't want to have to pull the engine!! Thanks again guys for the help i really appreciate it!!

yup 3 on the xp and that circular disk was exactly what i was talking about. general removal of loose material is enough i cant remeber the name now but will have a quick search it was made by araldite and i got it from homebase or something of that nature it just said on the box that it's good for metal and rubber and drying time is as per package but i would let it sit overnight before putting any load on it eg: running the engine. there is deffo no need to pull the engine to change any mount, the front one you may have to stuff a lump if 2"x2" wood under the block to hold it up while you glue the mount back together. ;)

just had a look and i can't see the exact one but im sure any of them would do just choose one for metal/rubber or plasitcs the ones in the double syringe are best that way you allways get the perfect mix of glue:hardener.

Awesome, thank you very much...i'm gonna go see what i can do. Oh, btw, what is your opinion of the repair method the guy on here used?? He actually drilled two holes in the bottom of the metal plate and ran 2 one inch lag screws up into the bottom of the rubber mount, along with using some kind of epoxy (JB weld glue i think)......seems like it might add a little more strength huh??Here are pictures of what he did.

it probably works perfectly but i have never had any need to do anything more than glue them, that is how they are manafactured new anyways.
