So I have had a 96XP 800 for the past 4 years and has ran great every year and have recently read that the adjustment for the carbs is LOW-1 turn out and HIGH-at 0. well mine has been adjusted at 1 turn out, HIGH and LOW, for the past 4 years. I was wondering what the effects are of having the carbs dialed in like that? thanks for any advice...

stock application settings, its what BRP pays the R/D engineers the big buks for.

If they are the FACTORY carbs, and the engine is stock... and if your high needle is a full turn open, I would think you would be fouling plugs constantly.

Are you?

Since you bought the ski used... you don't know what the last owner did to it, and if you aren't fouling plugs... I wouldn't turn the high peed screws in until you find out why they have been opened.

Kinda hard to argue against reliability, but I think like Tony, no smoking? How dark are the spark plugs? I guees it is better to err on the rich side rather than melt pistons away.

thanks for the reply!!! So I originally was told from the original owner that all the motor had was an aftermarket cylinder head and aftermarket R&D flame arrestors... took the carbs apart to clean and replace the filters to find out that the carbs had been re-jetted and that was the reason for having the HIGH screws backed out 1 full turn to except extra fuel flow... thanks for all the advice and info!!!
