I have a 96 xp , when I hook the lanyard up it only beeps once and when i push the start switch it just beeps and nothing, I have checked all fuses, good battery, clean terminals, checked everthing i could think of, anyone have any advise for me?

I suspect that the battery is low. The battery will slowly discharge, while in the doo, because the computer keeps up a little cycle, looking for the dess key. So, to protect the battery, when not in use, I recommend that you unhook the battery.

If you hook it to a charger, be sure to remove the bat from the doo. If you don't you can burn out some electronic components. If you use jumper cables, be sure the host motor is OFF, or you can doo the same thing.

So, My vote it battery is low.

Voltage, and amps are two separate things. You can have 12.8 volts, and very low amps. So, if it is easy, go to an auto parts store, and have them LOAD test the battery.
I am far from a parts store, but I have nice jumper cables. So, I'd hook up jumpers, to a nice hot battery. Be extra careful with polarity, + to + and - to -. And, host motor NOT running.

And, see what happens.

Also, you can have BAD connections at either end of your battery cables. Remove and clean, and coat with a bit of grease, and you may find the amperage gets through.

Just my 2 cents.

It sounds like your lanyard post is dirty. Try using soap and water to clean the post and lanyard cap. If it still does it, post again and I'll give you a test to do
to see if the post is bad.

You got 2 beeps... in Diagnostic mode I do have some testes or you to do. I will post them later this evening, as I'm not on my puter now.

Here is some info on the dess lanyard and some test to do;

I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up.

Engine start/stop switch verification;
Disconnect the Yellow/Red wire of the start/stop switch. Using an ohmmeter, connect test probes to the Yellow/Red wire and to ground. Measure resistance, it must be an open circuit (switch is normally open). Depress and hold switch, the ohmmeter should read close to “0” ohm.

Safety Lanyard Switch Verification;
If 2 short beeps are not heard when installing the safety lanyard, disconnect the switch wires.
Safety lanyard removed;
connect the test probes to switch Black and Black/Yellow wires. It’s an open circuit, there should be no continuity.
Connect one test probe to the White/Gray wire and the other test probe to the switch terminal. Measure resistance, it should be “0” ohm. Connect one test probe to the Black wire and the other test probe to the switch ring. Measure resistance, it must be close to “0” ohm.
Safety lanyard on switch; connect the probes to switch Black and Black /Yellow wires. Measure resistance, it must be “0” ohm.
Timer Verification;
The timer is integrated into the MPEM. Always confirm that the fuses are in good condition. To confirm operation of timer, remove the safety lanyard from switch. After 5 seconds delay, depress start/stop button once. The timer should stay on for 33 seconds (for example, the gauge(s) will be activated) and than turn off.

I hope this helps.
