I know, my pipe and waterbox is the original purple, but its faded and stained up..
Wanted to hit it with a fresh coat of purple without having to take it somewhere to have a professional match the color.
thanks

ya are making me feel bad ... I have been distracted from my 96 XP project.

When the snow is whirling around and you got to put on the galoshes and mittens you can come out here to San Diego and work some magic on mine.

Yea, I went last night and got the "Sumptuous Purple" from Lowes...cheap too..like $3.98 a can..I got two.. But I also got an oil based primer and clearcoat. I was told that the purple is a water-based paint, and that I SHOULD prime it first...
Did you prime yours or just clean it and paint over the existing purple?

Tonight we had time to start on the wet sanding. There was alot of ghosting of the old decals and the hull was dull.

We started off with 500 grit, then 800, the 1000 and then lastly 1200. We used warm water with a little bit of soap.

If you are going to do this make sure to use alot of water and once you feel it starting to stick, rinse the sand paper and spray more water on the hull.

You can see how faded the bottom is here

Complete

As you can see the ghosting of the decals and registration numbers are gone

Tommorrow the hull will be dull after the water dries. However as soon as we are done buffing it, it will look better that it looks now when wet. We still have to take off the dash decal too.

It was sanded, then acetoned and then painted it. It is a primer and paint in 1. Then we cleared it.

We got back to work on this tonight. Today racerxxx posted that he found the cable tie mounts for these hulls. We went and bought some although he found a 100 pack for $12, we were only able to get the 10 pack for $2.50. So here is some shots of those. All the credit here goes to Dan.

Also cleaned the over spray paint off of the rave caps that was done at the factory.

I used a scotchbrite and some gojo and cleaner.

Looks amazing Matt! I usually put the temp sensor in my cordless drill (not on the threads) and just run it with 0000 steel wool wrapped around it in my hand. They polish up so nice, but quickly tarnish.

Just got back from the shop. Did the first step in buffing.

I have some issues with this gelcoat. There is slight pitting on the nose and in other areas. I remember a member having the same issue. It looks like there is tiny air bubbles in the gelcoat. Possibly from the curing process. It still looks good just a weird issue.

Yes they must be really tiny..I honestly cant see anything... Looks perfect..

Since you are in the "Buffing" spirit, quick question...You see above your oil cap? the "console" area where you attach the lanyard, it's pink. Is that just a sticker that could potentially come off? Mine's kinda worn down and I was thinking about removing it permanently.

Yup it is just a decal. This one is coming off too. All the decals will be replaced. Our heat gun broke with that decal left to go. We already bought a new one at hf for $8 just have not got around to taking it off.

That was me. It's all over my ski. :(

Yea, I'll probably take mine off then and go with something different.
I already took my side decals and the one off of the hood. I think it looks sharp with decals like jetskigoodies spx silver/black ones...mainly silver with slight black at the edges, from what I can see in the avi

I like it! they look great!
I've heard many people referring NOS decals lately. What exactly is it/what does it stand for?

New old stock. Basically parts that are brand new, that aren't reproduced anymore, but yet they are still new. So like these decals, they were made in probably 1999, but no one ever bought or used them. Some NOS parts, like those decals, are extremely hard to find because it probably been 15 years since they stopped making them really hard to find
