Isn't it amazing how much detail was there. When Mike and I talked the other day we were talking about your ski

He wants pictures straight on, the problem with that is when you try to get the shot of the whole decal you need to be far back. You end up losing the picture quality. So I took some far away shots and then a bunch of close ups.

They dont get much cleaner than this.

That picture is funny. The guy is almost completely covered all he needs is a ski mask and the girl has the good ol high arched hip (baywatch style) swimsuit of the 90's where it looks like she has nothing on. She is also wearing all five colors of the graphics, purple, pink, white, yellow and black. So was it cold or hot that day?

I wonder if he could use the 95 color palette on the 96 graphics. I MAY be in for another set. Mine are starting to peel up in places and exotic signs says I'm 2 years out from my order so they won't do anything( other than cut me a deal on new graphics which are still more than PWCgraphics). :( Eventhough I maybe have 20 hours( super high estimate) on my resto and it stays in a climate controlled environment when I'm not riding.

Ok just got back from the shop. We stripped it and gave it a good scrub.

All cleaned up, we used degreaser and a scotchbrite pad. Then rinsed it with warm water and repeated a couple times. We also tilt the hull to the left and raise the nose us a bit when we rinse it. The 96 xp only has one drain plug so you need to get the water to rush out that side with the plug. Spx's 97-99 has 2 drain plugs so you do not need to tilt it.

Ok, so, Someone..(Your Customer)...Drops his ski off like this, tells you what he wants, etc..what will the total ESTIMATED cost for doing all this for him be?
Just curious as to see the time VS money value for someone who may or may not want to be bothered going thru an entire restore, and just paying someone instead..

The customer is a friend of Rj's family, he also just bought a clean 96 xp off of us and wants this to match the one he bought from us. His wife loves their 96 xp and he is doing this secretly and then suprizing her with it next spring.

The actual cost of this in parts will run about $500

Mats- $120
Battery- $90
Seat cover - $60
Decals-$200
Fuel line-$30
Ss hose clamps- $13
Oil filter-$10

We also have alot of other supplies that we never end up adding in

Degreaser $10-$15 worth
Decal removal spray $15 a can( maybe 1/4 can used)
Acetone
Buffing supplies, sand paper, spray paint, gloves, zip strips, ss staples, scotchbrite pads, tape and other misc supplies.

Thats just what we know it needs. We already have 10 man hours into this and it will be another 20 hours into it.

We still have to clean everything, wet sand and buff the hull, fill in the mat holes, wrap the seat, paint the motor, install a new oil pump, change all the fuel lines, go through the pump, rebuild the carbs, install the decals, install mats, put everything back togethor, plus multiiple other things along the way.

So even of you did $20 a hour your looking at $600-$700 just in labor.

So this would run at least $1200 but his price wont be that high as it is a friend. It still will not be cheap or free by any means.

That is still a realllllly good price. I know if i had a POS 96 XP with a good engine, i would definitely let you go through it for that price and get a brand new ski back basically

Yeah I think everybody would. I'd buy them for 12 and sell them for 25 a pop.

They might have a tough time putting food on the table that way though, lol.

Today we cleaned the motor, wire brushed it, scuffed it with 220 grit sand paper, then we cleaned it with degreaser followed by acetone.

After all of that we painted it. We found a paint that is close to the original color at lowes. I do not recall the actual name of the color right now but I will post it at a later date. It was valspar brand. We went there to get the sumptous purple that racerxxx used on his 96xp resto.

Started out like this

And now

We also started to paint the purple parts, they started to get sanded as you can see the purple paint on the floor but we ran out of acetone so this is all that got painted purple

My future brother in law painted his with bilge paint from west marine. He used a grey color and it turned out nice, but you need to take everything out of the hull. It is oil and gas resistant so it wont peel up. You could use clear I guess but epoxy in the fiber glass pretty much does the same thing thats why these clean up so nicely.

Usaf we will be on your side of the mitten this weekend, we are headed to silver lake for a quad trip. We may have to start checking cl for things in your area lol.

Got back from the sand dunes last night, so tonight we did some work. We cleaned the raves, bellows and housings

We cleaned them with a scotchbrite pad and degreaser.

We also found one of the rave valve springs was broken. We will just replace that with a spare.

We also cleaned the flame arrestor and bracket. We also painted sanded and painted the rear motor mount bracket. It was badly rusted. I forgot to get pictures of them.

We also painted all the purple pipes.

405.jpg

The welch plugs were already fixed.
406.jpg

407.jpg

We did not want to split the pipe so we taped the clamp.

408.jpg

409.jpg

We spent about 2 hours on it tonight. Next we will start on the hull. Time to wet sand and buff it.

I painted my motor with high temp (either 1200 or 2000 degrees plus? forgot what the rating was) Rustoleum Silver, looks a LOT better than it did, but still lacks that high gloss shine to it!
Also, I am already in the process of repainting my tuner pipe/exhaust. I WAS going to just paint it the same color as the motor, but then I saw your pic with the purple and it looks AMAZING! I saw someone else's ski on here too that was painted that purple color. Love it!

So, Jetskigoodies , can you PLEASE share what brand/exact color name/where you got it from?
Thanks!
