The spedo's should work ok as the resistance is sent from the same speed sensor at the rear of the seadoo. Seadoo uses the same amount of resistance for it to register. The hole should all be the same also.

no the 97 xp's gauge is about 2 inches big where yours is about 1 1/2 inches big i' have tried it and yes the gauge will work from the box with power but it will not fit in the dash.

Ok, thanks for saving me wasted money, any other seadoo years your aware of with same guage as my 96 XP? or were they a one year only deal.BTW measured the guage, is right on the dot at 2-1/4 inches outside ring.

For an exact match, you might want to research the "parts" link and compare the parts by number to see what parts fit the different years.

Yeah karl, thanks, i tried that route bud, prob is no part# listed for a 96 XP speedo to compare it with the 97, i did notice though, its a diff part# for 97 XP as is for 97 GTI/GTX so possibility 97 XP speedo is my tickit, guess i'll have to ask one of the peeps on ebay to measure there used one for me, bout all i can shoot for..

I just thought the guages didn't change much in size back in the day. I would do just that and ask the seller on ebay to measure so you know for sure...It's a pain to get the wrong one and the aggravation of getting your money back if it's wrong. I thought for sure you would have gotten a answer from several other owners on here as to the dimension you need. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Appreciate your input karl, any advice is appreciated.Got the ski in thew water a few hours ago for first test drive, i like it" pulls like a rocket once warmed up, but holy crap its hard on fuel, lol, what a tiny little tank, had to turn back home after 1 hour on the water, was down less then 1/3 tank, where as my old waverunner III was still at 3/4 tank.$25 Fuel in 2 hours, Yikes, yami took $8 same distance, but not as fun, lol..any way to add more fuel storage to that thing?

Uh...you could pull a tube on a line behind you with a spare gas can...

There isn't much room to add another fuel tank safely anywhere.

Try this and let us know

Have you tried to check resistance on the sensor side you might not be getting resistance let us know what you find out as far as the resistance also make sure the purple and black wires connected to the speed sensor are getting power and it might be a bad sensor also check the little cog wheel for damage in the back on the ski you might have an even simpler issiue than pulling out the gauage and replaceing i'm sure a gauage will run about $200 maybe more maybe less. Also on the fuel question tuck some one gallon feul tanks on the side of the main tank that will give you about 20 minutes more but make sure their strapped in or you'll have fuel everywhere.

Thanks guys for the insight, will definately check power to the unit, guess i just seen all the corrosion thru the lens and assume it was toast as well as the VTS, which should be here tomorrow, did someone say the speedo was hooked into the VTS harness? maybe with New VTS working it will give me powert to speedo if thats the case.Did check the Paddle wheel, seen one tooth missing, assumed it was the one with magnet, nope, all 4 have magnet according to the little washer that came in the replacement pkg,so much for the cheap $50 fix, oh well, it needed it anyways.Next step, hook up the vts, check speedo with compressed air spinning the wheel, i assume tether switch needs to be ON? for speedo to work?

Yep and yep!

yes the speedometer is connected to the vts gauge by a purple and black wire thats how it gets power. to get the ski on just hit the start stop bottom with the lanyard off so you don't damage the motor by running it out of water and the gauges will come on and just test it out...
