I hate to be that guy that gets all excited about a CL deal, and makes a new thread just to document how crappy of a restorer I am probably going to be, but man I have to tell you guys that I am beyond excited. First, let me tell you about the craft...

I grabbed a 96 XP today, my first project PWC ever, from a fella for 700 with trailer, a few jackets, and a battery charger. The XP has new battery, plugs, exhaust gasket and starter button, with Handle bars, seat and water spouts all aftermarket. As a bonus, trailer has new bearings and tires as well. Runs, and is in decent shape.

Here are a few pics:

In anticipation of buying this, I have been creeping on this forum for the past week, devouring every tidbit of information I could about this craft. I will admit that before a week ago, I knew jacksh*t. I've read about the X4 hulls, the 787 (seadoosnipe's thread is wonderful), the mods, even down to the simplest difference between hydro-turf and jettrim or how to properly buff and shine the hull. It's like a drug that I can't stop taking.

I plan on taking it out this weekend for a full water test in the Choctaw Bay, and by next week I should have an idea of how I want to customize the appearance, as well as clean up the engine. I am super excited, and please bear with a noob if I seem a bit overzealous.

More to come, with plenty of pics along the way!

Oh, and did I mention my neighbor is a PWC mechanic?

Nice seadoo. The yellow will shine up nice too. you also have a single gauge hood off of a 95xp 800 those are hard to find. I have came across three of them. If you ever end up painting the hood, take that one off and Im sure someone would toss you $50-100 and their purple or teal one to paint.

Congrats on the new ski.. You came to the right place. The X4 is quite popular here.

I've seen this for sale before over there. I like the seat. I have many other seat options for that ski including the yellow original.

If you need parts or mechanical help or both I'm only an hour away from Pcola. I'm willing to help a lot(or add cash) to trade for that seat.

Congrats on the purchase btw.

That's good...you'll enjoy it. Didn't believe it till I bought one. Two weeks later bought another. ..Lol

So a little update:

Been busy at work the last few days and haven't had time to clean her up and work on her like I wanted until today. So I scrubbed her down and gave her a nice wash, and boy does she look 10x better. Ordered some hydro-turf mats, the originals aren't that bad, but with being out in the previous owners yard forever, gunk and leaves and stuff had accumulated under them and I just want to strip em off.

Quick question before I get back to it...the single gauge hood seems to be a preference to a lot of posters around the forum, just wondering why? The original hood with mirrors and the 3 gauges seems to be a better deal IMO, especially if you want to pull tubers or know anything other than how much gas you have. Just a curiosity

I mean most people just think the single guage hood looks better. It is sleeker, and the mirrors on a 96 xp are basically useless. You can relocate the other guages if you wanted to as well. I hope you dont plan on pulling tubers with this ski lol

I will gladly trade you my original hood for the single gauge. I'll even include all three of the gauges hahaha

I appreciate the offer but I still prefer the single gauge, I was just being a little nosey. I'm probably going to paint it black and keep it brother.

The seat isn't in the best condition Matt, I'll take a few photos later to show you. But if the engine keeps giving me trouble like it has been, I may be giving you the seat and some cash if you know how to fix her lol

Don't paint that hood! The yellow ones are rare. If anything sell the yellow one and buy another color and paint it black!!

Funny thing is, I was literally about to head to Lowe's and buy the plasti-dip to paint it. Luckily that stuff peels off, or I'd of been in a bad way with some bad people had I painted it hahah

And now she's not wanting to crank. Just a sluggish turn over then nothing. Brand new battery, fully charged. Took spark plugs out, turns over like she should, but doesn't crank. From what I've read, it could be wiring, the starter or something more serious....Blah!!!

Check your cable connections and mainly your ground connections.... The one that goes to the engine ground more specifically... Double check for corrosion.... Usual symptom of bad cables/connection

I have normal single gauge hoods you can paint however you want. I'll give you one plus cash for your yellow. Your seat is a very special and rare seat. It's not about condition but just the fact I don't have one. I built my X4 after Terri's design who now owns Poppy Covers(see sticky they are oem quality). She had one of those seats and I want one to complete my replica. There is not a lot of value there to most people but I love it. I'll show you a pic of my X4 and then the pic of the one I modeled mine after that has that seat.

These skis always have little bugs to work out. I have all the parts here to just plug things in so we can find and remedy the issues quickly. If you drive to Niceville we will fix it right and you can take it right back home with you. Just lmk when you have some time. I think you got a great ski so don't worry.

Anytime would be great if it's not a hassle! I have a very limited knowledge of these things, and any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm down in FWB, so not too far of a drive for me to Niceville
