So you guys said that if the HIN indicates your tank is recalled but hasn't been replaced, SeaDoo will actually pay for a dealership/certified repair shop to change it? cause if so that would be epic....... i literally got my ski completely back together a month an a half ago and i dont wanna do it all over again......

Whats the number again? and so if i call those guys, and mine is under recall but hasn't been replaced, will SeaDoo pay a certified repair shop/dealership to change it out for me? cause i literally got my ski back together a month and a half ago and i really dont feel like doing it again......... plus my tank is yellow/orangish so im pretty sure its one of the old ones.....

thanks,
Drew

I called BRP directly at 715-848-2520. After listening to the recordings, and one of the options eventually was recalls, I gave the fellow my HIN and he verified mine had been replaced in 1998. I also have a 96 GTI he checked on for me as well. It had been replaced too.

Or just call your dealer and give them your HIN, easy breezy. I also looked at the mold indicaters on the tank and could determine myself that it was the original one just due to the manufacture date.

cool thanks......yeah , mine has a giant what looks like mildew line wrapping around it where the seam is in the side of the tank.......im pretty sure its the recalled one

Actually I meant the mold dates not actually "mold". On the tank there are little "clocks" so to speak that you can determine when something was produced. This is big in the automotive industry.

Fuel Tank Friday!

Not bad called and confirmed everything on the 5th and just got back from the dealer. 4 days to get my band new fuel tank. Now the push might be on, gonna be 70 on Monday and I'm already not feeling well, cough, cough. Thanks to JSG for reminding me to get the new tank.

oh....ok...........well either way........my tank is disgusting lol

lol, when you get bored one weekend, you can clean those up pretty nicely... the one I have in mine looked pretty bad when i got it, and it scrubbed it clean inside and out, it looks 100% better.

even when its in the ski, purple power and a scrubby pad, pressure washer will get a LOT of the crud off.

i am definately going to try blasting a set of carb's and see what happens,
those are just to clean for me not to try, i'll start with an unwanted set and work my way up to a good set :)

thanks for posting... i'll try and share b4 and after as well.

Even my starter support needed repair. Never a dull moment here that's for sure. Whipped out the tig today and made it whole again. Got the fuel lines all done, new selector switch. First place I went and asked for fuel line it was $1.79 per foot, walked out. Second place got it for $0.86 per foot. If I had hit the same price as the first place I was ordering USCG approved online for $1.50 per foot. The list is thinning!

Ahhh I have heard of this bracket but couldn't find one when I took my starter off , so that's what it looks like , something else to add to the list I guess !
On a similar vein , a company called crank n charge sell the brush kit on ebay , have you heard of these guys ? Is their stuff ok ?

Yes I have seen them on Ebay, if I need Denso parts I see my buddy, his family owns a lawn mower repair shop. Been years since I needed stuff.

NICE! Forgot about taking pics of the painted carbs for mine. Guess I'll have to remember to do that. They're sitting in a box right now.

Looks great, I'm having my carbs powder coated this week.

Personally, I think that is a bad manuver. I do my own powdercoating and that stuff is tough to get off. If you do go thru with it make sure you have everything stripped down there are rubber seals on the shafts, plastic bushing inside the throttle shafts, plastic washers on pivot points. I think your going down the wrong road. I am extremely careful taking stuff apart an I managed to break two butterfly screws, and I even knew they were peened so they couldn't be ingested into the engine so I filed the back side of the screws that stick through the throttle shaft-- Oh SNAP. They were at the machine shop today getting drilled out. Remember this: The road to Hell was paved with good intentions. I F'd up a gun barrel once, took me two weeks to get it cleaned again so I could repowder it. Use Engine paint it's ceramic and can take heat and is oil and gas resistant. My carbs are rattle canned and I think they look great. Duplicolor has tons of colors. I don't mean to sound crass but just wanted to warn you of possible dangers of PC.

Hey RACERXXX been awhile since I tuned into your thread, but great progress man ! As for the handlebar cover they are Truly a nightmare to clean, well atleast mine was. it was practically breaking down while i was cleaning it and gunk was sticking to my hands in Torquoise. I sealed the deal with the Blacktip mat, and it had worked wonders and actually gave my boat a good look. As for the fuel tank, did you just tell them to order you one? I have to get my tank recalled, however I called the shop EASTCOAST CYCLE CENTER in Bristol, Pa and they said I would have to bring it there first. In all Honesty, Id rather install it myself with my new Baffle and such. How did you get them to hand one over to you?

Somewhere in the thread there is a phone number for BRP so you can verify your tank needs replacement, I just called the dealer and gave them the HIN# and they called me back on Monday or something and they said I was due for a replacement. They called me 4 days later and said it was in. As far as the hand over, I have known the dealer/family for my 38 years of existence, and my Dad was into sleds before I was born. ECC should be able to do the check over the phone and do the install when you show up, your HIN will reveal all. If you don't trust ECC call BRP and get the details direct from them, but go the ECC phone way first WITHOUT driving there.

Well..That is what I did already. I called ECC up and verified my Hin, he said it was due a recal, however he said that he isnt going to order the tank until it gets here. I would rather just pick the tank up and redo all the fuel components myself like I did in my other ski. Do you think they would just have the part shipped to them; than I just pick it up wih the credentials showing the boat is indeed mine?

Tough call. Tell them it's a good drive to get to them and you'd prefer to do it all in one day. Perhaps asking if you could just do a pick up and you'd bring the registration and pick up the tank and give them yours. I mean I see their point, there is a liability to it. I probably shouldn't have been able to walk with mine either. Now, I can have them check it when I go back and have my spare key programmed, to make the tank "official". Maybe you could tell the guy to put a deposit on your credit card(that would be refunded) until you showed up to have the tank swapped.
