96 SPX VTS mounting issues help!

Hey guys so I’m really lost here. My VTS assembly has a lot of wiggle to it. Previous owner just slammed it with RTV and called it a day. Well I’m re-installing and there’s like a 1 inch gap between the VTS and the firewall of the jet ski when mounted to the bracket. Is this normal? The bracket seems to be keeping the VTS assembly from sitting flush against the firewall. Also, I cracked my plastic nut trying to tighten it more! Thanks in advance!

I think you're missing the spacer that goes inside on the shaft that the big nut tightens on.

Thanks for the reply! After some research that’s what I’m leaning towards. That leads to this, every diagram I find doesn’t list that part number but they do show it in the picture. So weird! Any ideas?

I actually looked it up under a 96xp, but then went back and checked the 96spx which falls under the 96 sp tab on the link I provided.

You are the man. Can’t thank you enough! I had felt it when I first bought the jet ski (my first pwc) and know enough to know that it shouldn’t be THAT loose or have any space between the hull. Thanks again man! Cheers
