96 Seadoo XP

Went out today and I noticed the 1995 717 XP was constantly pulling to the left. When i got it out of the water I noticed the right sponson was broken towards the back. Not sure how it happened but I was riding them pretty hard. Broke both sponsons on the tigershark before selling it from just doing hard turns and wave jumping. Does this happen often? Now I regret saying I hated the purple sponsons. I was looking at aftermarket sponsons online and omg are they expensive... So yesterday I broke the storage bin somehow and the sponsons. Sigh. I thought I was done fixing up the 717...

Hmm I got a question how can you afford to ride everyday when you said yo ass was broke? Every time I go u end up spending like 75 bucks on gas and oil and just to get into the lake. Sorry I'm a financial planning major so I think about these things lol

Don't put aftermarket sponsons on a 717, I don't really think its worth the money if your just a rec rider

Its not everyday... A lot lately though. I only spent $20 on gas every time. My buddy fills up the other one. I'm just not broke right now... We only go out for a little over an hour and its still half test half fun. I have a full time job and I also do side work so I'm not poor but I have a lot of hobbies that get expensive over time. I don't save I just spend. hahaha. That's one reason I'm broke. Also I give my fiance money every month to save so I just hand her my extra cash sometimes and just give myself enough money for essentials. Then i have to wait for my next pay check to get what I really need. Seadoo parts and spearfishing gear. Sigh.

Definitely not going aftermarket sponsons unless I find a really good deal. I will probably just pick up one used right sponson but I like the ones made out of metal. Just seems like they would last a lifetime...

Lol nah I was just giving you a hard time. I would just stick with the OEM sponsons, I mean they have lasted 17 years, usually they only break when they have been really abused

Heat decal evenly but focus heat in smaller area to start it process. Should pull off in bigger pieces.
When you heat it too much you'll see vinyl decal bubble but should pull away like rubber band until piece breaks.
Then you start over
Careful not to burn gelcote

Ty!!!! Your tips helped a lot! Got most of the decals off and it doesn't look like it needs much buffing. Since we didn't have time to get them all off I didn't want to take pictures but it's coming along.

yup......
You have to throw up pics of adventures/catch.

Got some black vinyl to redo the ripped seat today. I was looking for yellow but couldn't find any at the local store. $4.90 a yard for the black I might as well. Tired of the seat weighing 40lbs when its water logged.

$4.90 a yard, where did you find it that cheap? Did you get marine grade vinyl? If not you will have a mold problem. If you go to joann fabrics it is only $16 a yard and if you get a 40% off coupon then it is only $9 a yard. Each seat only uses about a yard. They have yellow too.

It wasn't a large chain just a local store and they only had one roll of marine grade vinyl. It said marine grade vinyl on the roll and I bought it because it was way cheaper than I saw online. I'll have to hit up Joann's when I want a yellow seat. I think they were just trying to get rid of it.

Definitely have to do something about the hood.

I sold the tigershark and bought the 96 XP about 4 weeks ago. Its the same one just took the decals off and the seat ripped so we are letting it dry before we put on the new vinyl. I just wanted to take pictures of my slow progress. I put the fish up because that's what I was doing instead of fixing up my seadoos and ocod told me to post more pictures. I doo have the fever. Just dropped $120 on parts today.

Ty. Planning on painting the hood yellow, black seat(temporary until i get yellow vinyl) and cleaning the handlebar cover with lighter fluid. Then buffing, polishing and waxing both XPs. If the handlebar cover doesn't come out well, I'm just going to buy a motocross handlebar brace and pad. I have the cool handlebar cover and pad for my XP but I still can't get it on. I wish somebody would sell the hardware to make it fit... I guess that would make it too easy.

Also replacing the broken sponson, wear ring and fuel selector valve when it comes in the mail. I got a impeller removal tool now so taking off the wear ring will be a lot easier. Going to try the freezer trick to get the wear ring out again but it didn't work last time.

Try scrubbing the hood down first, plenty of people have done it with good results. Why are you bothering to even put the black seat cover on if you are going to recover it with yellow??? Doesnt make sense to me  sounds like a waste of time and money. What is the cool handlebar pad and cover for the xp you cant get on??? You know Jetskigoodies makes a bracket to mount the new style handlebar pad on these xps....

That's exactly what I need. Does he sell the bracket? I never pm'd him to see if he sells it or anything but that's where I got the idea. I bought some black marine grade vinyl for super cheap and I need something while the other vinyl comes in the mail. Definitely a waste of $5 and the time to get it on but I need it ready tomorrow because my brother wants to try it out and I don't want the seat to get water logged again.

Ty for pointing me in the right direction. I hope more people are interested. I have a black handlebar cover with a yellow pad that's in great condition. I think its going to look good. Yellow hood with a black sticker on it. Black seat with some yellow accent. Yellow handlebar grips.

Fixed the seat on the XP 800 but I'm not that happy with it. Couple spots I messed up on and it looks terrible. At least it was only $5 and we only spent 30 minutes doing it. I have some yellow vinyl coming and using a better staple gun.

The plan for the 96 XP 800 is a yellow seat with black seadoo stencil, yellow gloss hood with a black/yellow XP sticker, black & yellow hydroturf and yellow handlebar cover with yellow pad. I kind of want a single gauge hood painted gloss yellow if I can find one. Was thinking instead of buying a working tachometer and vts gauge I could get a single gauge hood. If the price of the gauges are more than the hood I might go for it. I like the original blue they used for the decals but custom decals are so expensive I probably won't do it.

The 95 XP 720 is proving harder to match colors. Purple bumpers, grab bar, sponsons and footwell mats are really an eyesore. Black painted hood and black seat with a white Styrofoam handlebar pad. I'm thinking about naming it Frankendoo. At least the pink decals are off the XP 720... Any color scheme ideas would be appreciated. I was looking for images of custom XP 720 but there aren't any.

Mike let me go through the pile of parts I got with a couple project skis I picked up. I'm pretty sure there is a yellow seat skin in the bunch. If you want it i'll make you a deal on it. Peronally I would go with a single gauge hood, but a single gauge hood looks best with a set of aftermarket bars. Atleast to me it does.

I have 3 96 XPs and all had the faded yellow hood issue. I used 0000 steel wool on each one and hit it with some kind of auto gloss dressing, I use Eimann Fabrik Black Opal. I've had fantastic results. I'll post a picture in a bit.

Thanks for the hint. I started cleaning my hood and I got tired of it. I kept thinking why am I cleaning this when I'm drooling over a single gauge hood. Ty skew I have some yellow vinyl coming already otherwise I might have taken you up on the offer. I'm not into the aftermarket bars I have a handlebar cover and pad that needs mounting hardware. just waiting for more people to get interested in Jetskigoodies bracket so I can get one. Come on guys!
