I have a 96 seadoo gsx with the 800 motor and has a few modds like factoy pipe, reduction nossle, intake grate, ect that i bought at the end of last summer. It ran great the first and second times we had it to the lake but after that it would run great out of the water and would rev fine but as soon as you put it in the water it will only rev a little past idle fully pinned and if you keep it pinned for 2 or 3 minutes it will finaly get power and take off but as soon as you let off or a couple of seconds it will do the same thing all over again. It will also never just idle if you let off it will try to die. Any ideas on what it could be would be great.

Im pretty sure it has good compression, and wouldent it not ever get power if it was somthing that big?

Check the compression. Sounds like you have a jug that gave up.

OK...

You ask for help... you have to start somewhere with the troubleshooting. If you aren't going to at least check, then don't ask. Yes, it can be something else, but you need to check the basics, and a compression check takes about 2 minutes to do. low compression will do exactly what you are describing.

Also... check the purple tag under my name... and read my signature line at the bottom.

Anyway.... good luck. I'm out-a here. :seeya:

Did you set the carbs up for that pipe??

LOL yup you gotta check compression first, then I would say its prob the carbs needing a rebuild (Genuine kits and needle and seats) New fuel lines, clean selector valve and filter, clean rave valves.

Ok i will go and get a compression tester and check that but in the mean time by setting the carbs up for the pipe do you mean rejetting? I have no clue if the guy be for me did or not. I do know that where we bought the skis from and where we live has quite a big drop in elevation. Could that make a big difference?

I went and checked the compression and it checks out fine, but i noticed that this time when i start and run it with no water hooked up it will idle and rev fine but as soon as i hook up the water hose it will start to idle real high and then it will start idling real low and keep going form high to low
