96 GTX Lean?!?

Ok guys, so i have a 96 GTX and i put a new sbt block in it , i tuned the carbs to a point where the plugs were a perfect milky brown/black (No White!) and it was running great in both the low end and the top, my WOT rpms were maxed at 6650 and that was with two people on it. now the problem i was having was that every time i would hit a wake and catch some air, the engine would bog, hold the throttle and it wouldnt go above 4 grand, but if i pulsed the throttle , it would jump right back. now i already did the tempo lines , bypassed directly to reserve, and replaced all of the fuel system filters. so i am stuck at the WTF? point of this ski.......oh yeah and it eventually blew the rear cylender......so im suspecting some sort of conditional lean , but i cant figure out where at?

all help is appreciated guys.......everybody i know says this ski is a lost cause , but i dont believe it! i need help!b

It's not a lost cause, they said that so they can buy it cheap and either flip it or use it themselves.

I have the same ski which tops out at 7K RPM according to it's tach.
Do you let go of the throttle while in the air?
Are you saying that you blew the new SBT motor?
Did you rebuild the carbs?
What oil are you using?.....oil pump or premix???

Where is Clyde?

yeah, im keeping it lol.

answers to your questions

-no i keep it pinned
-yes , i blew the rear cylender in my new SBT block.....already returned it, they're analyzing it and sending me another.
-i am having the carbs professionally rebuilt......i dont want any risks with the new block.
-Amsoil HP Injector TC-w3 pumped.

-BFE lol........40 minutes south of Toledo. I usually ride on Lake Erie off of Catawba Island, but more so in the muddy creek bay and sandusky river near fremont.

OK, I can't answer your lean run problem unless the carb filters were plugged up. Please post the results of the test by SBT.

I use Amsoil Interceptor oil for 787 motors, better for the Rave valves...but that is not the reason for lean run. I also think Injector is HPi not TC-W3

also it does this when running WOT for a while 2-3 minutes usually, and when playing around in the bottom end alot (like doing donuts and stuff) ......but the fuel lines have been done, and filters replaced.....the only filter that wasnt replaced is the main filter up front.....i even bypassed the selector directly to the reserve.

Ok, on the back of the jug it says for use in all TC-w3 premix and injection applications?

regardless of that, you should be running an API-TC rated oil, not TC-W3. there are no dual certified API/TCw3 rated oils, so you need to change all of that out.

damn.......i just filled it too lol........so is interceptor the best oil for the job?

if you're going to spend the money on amsoil, and seadoo XPS is available near you, go with the sea-doo stuff. reality though is that you can use any API-TC rated oil, but seadoo recommends not mixing brands....

i think ill just burn the amsoil HP injector out of it .......then fill it with Interceptor............the local performance shop has it and they also said that one tank of hp injector is ok........as long as i follow it with something that has a exhaust valve cleaner in it (i.E interceptor

If you run tcw3 through your next motor, you'll burn it up too unless you change out to API-tc oil. Tcw3 doesn't have the lube properties for 7k rpm, and it'll gum up your rave valves too

Ohh.......well that could very well be why it maxed out at 6650 and blew after a while..............i had about 2 tanks of TC-w3 through it when it blew.........and yeah, it was broken in with tc-w3

It sounds like you tried to drive a new engine with bad carbs. Rebuild the carbs, use the correct oil, and make sure your carbs are set to factory specs and let us know how it goes. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't honor the warrante with the use of the wrong oil. They state which oil should be used in multiple places on the instructions with that new engine.

boy i sure hope they cover it (this is directly from their site)>>>> "SBT warrants its standard remanufactured engines for a period of one (1) year from the date of the original purchase against any failure that would require replacement"

got the results of the sbt back today , the front crank bearning went because water got in , i reused the mag seal and only replaced the gasket and o ring, so every time i jumped , the pressure on the case was causing a gap , letting air in , causing it to lean out and bog.

The labeling on Amsoil is confusing. I spoke to a tech there a few years ago to get clarification. Injector is No ASH, Interceptor is LOW ASH, so that is the one you want. Your RAVES will be very gunky with Injector

yeah.....the ash is one of the things that keeps the raves clean lol..............i reused the crank seal on the front MAG side of the engine the first time around.
