Hi. 96 GTX, 104 hours.

Starts great cold, and after a small warm up when you go to take off, it seems like its going to go wide open and then drops down to 4k and the engine sounds like its studdering. Eventually it will come out of it.

It did it to me for about 5 minutes today, then ran fine the rest of the day (and tank of fuel) then my brother wanted to try it out so we put some new fuel in and it did it to him for about 5 minutes.

It looks like the spark is weak to me, compared to other sparks i've seen but I cleaned all the connections (electrical/battery cables/etc) and it didnt' seem to improve.

Now directly after running it, the plugs look normal. They aren't wet, light brown colored. So it doesn't seem like it isn't firing however I haven't had a chance to pull the plugs while its been acting up (I never take tools to the lake, guess I should)

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm going to take it back out tomorrow morning and try it again and see if it acts up. I know last year it was fogged and winterized but it doesn't seem to have anythning to do with it.

When it is warm, it runs great. It does sound a little ratty up around 4-5k but just a touch more throttle and it takes right off. Help please =)

Im thinking im going to have to dig into the fuel system more, however it just seems strange it only does it when its cold (sat for two or more hours or overnight) and then it runs perfectly.

It seems when its acting up when cold if I switch over to reserve it will come out of it, and when I switch back to on (fuel selector) it seems to run fine. Any ideas what would cause this?

I would definitely remove the fuel switch and clean it out. You will not believe the "gum" these hoses create. Just touch the end of any of these hoses and feel the green ooze that is on them. That should tell you all you need to know. Could be the fuel switch is loaded up with this and moving it around moves the goo around.

Yes. I have read many posts about the faulty hoses and the goo in the switch. I figured that was the problem the other day when I switched to reserve, it came out of it, then ran like a champ on the regular position.

I'll have to start tearing into it and replacing fuel hose and cleaning the selector switch. Its my brother's ski, and he seems to have lost interest in it. Maine hasn't witnessed summer yet. :(

Well we have been cooking in Texas since the beginning of June........... It has been ~ 10 days now of over 100.

You can shave 20 degrees off and send it this way... that would put our temp around 80. That would be nice. We've been plagued with rain and low 50's most of the summer :(

Ouch low 50s???? How do you get motivated to get working on your machine? I guess wet suits are in order. Our lake temps are in the upper 80s right now. Have been since the end of June.

LOL. The water isn't bad, but if your water temps are that high you would freeze up here. I fell off the Ski the other day. It was quite a shock, but not nearly as bad as when the ice first left :)

50's here is great weather for me, I work on vehicles (recreation and the like) all seasons.

Seems to be running fine on reserve, minute I switch back to ON it starts running like crap. I'm guessing its the fuel line problem and gummed up fuel system.

Likely the fuel switch is clogged. Because most of us always run in the ON position it is the one that gets clogged. I have read many posts where switching to reserve will correct the problem. Take the switch out, disassemble the stem, and soak it in some good degreaser. Do not use carb cleaner on this as there is a rubber insert that will not like the carb cleaner. Soak it overnight and blow it out with an air compressor.

Than ride it like you stole it!
