Thanks for any help you can provide. I have a 1996 GTI. Three weeks ago it was giving two short beeps and wouldn't start. I read that it might be a bad lanyard connection. Jiggled the lanyard and the ski has run great since.

This weekend I changed the spark plugs (normal maintenance) and the ski ran great. The next day I took the ski out and it was running pretty sluggish, so I popped the seat and saw that one of the boots was completely off the plug. I put the boot back on the plug and now the ski won't start at all.

I get one beep when I reconnect the lanyard. I get one beep when I press the start/stop button. I charged the battery, but get the same result. The ski doesn't even try to do anything other than beep. All four indicator lights (battery, oil, temp, etc) are lit and red when I press the start/stop button.

Could something on the ski need reset due to the spark plug being disconnected? Any advice is appreciated.

considering you ran the engine with one of the sparkplug wires off the cylinder that had no wire conected to it was being fueld but not ignited and most likly recked the spark plug. have you tryed changing the spark plugs ?
not to shure about the beeping thing

Thanks, everything I've read about with the single beep points to the starter or the lanyard not communicating with the MPEM. I'm thinking that it is electrical related and will change out to new plugs. I will also get a new battery and see if that helps.

Replaced the battery and new spark plugs. Ran the diagnostics and now after putting the lanyard back on, I get two short beeps when hitting the start/stop button.

Ran diags again and sometimes I get two short beeps or nothing at all.

Any other advice?

when the machine has 2 short beeps does it turn over for you or no ? if with 2 short beeps the engine does not turn over your gona want to open up the sealed electrical box check for one make shure thers no water if its dry most likly the starter solenoid is gone

Well im prity shure your starte relay is fried or the small fuse in the sealed black box you will see 2 red and 2 black wires going into this box they come from the starter and battery check an make shure that this box isent full of water not to shure if your familure with starter relays at all your going to have to run some test on it if you dont no how post back and il give you some info
