-96 Challanger Restoration

Hello,
I just bought a -96 Challenger that I'm restoring.

I would like to replace all the oil hoses,( looks old) tank to crank as well as Injector pump to intake, any suggestions as far as what type hose to use and where to get it?

Does anyone have suggestions of where to have new Decals made, either custom or originals?
Every one on the boat is cracked and faded and needs to come off.

any hose will work, i used clear tubing from Ace. As for decals, contact "Rexsteiner" from this site., or fleebay.

Yup... any chemical hose is OK. (can get it at the auto parts store)

As far as the decals... they probably don't exist. You can look on eBay to see if you can find a dealer cleaning out his old inventory... but your best bet is to talk to someone that can cut you custom vinyl. The boat in my avatar was a full restoration last spring. I have a buddy with a vinyl cutter, and we just made everything new. It worked out for the best. I couldn't find a new gunnle trim insert the same color that I needed... but I found a silver one. So... we just cut new graphics to match the teal/silver trim that I was forced to use.

OK... I could have gotten a new Teal insert... but it was going to be $350 plus shipping. The silver one cost me $50.

Shake, the "Vinyl Man" you are talking about, what did he charge you for your decals? Did he do the large ones on the side too? How do I contact him?

I paid $225. for everything including the boat registration. Also I have a big SEADOO speedster on the back hatch that you dont see so well in the pic's.

It was a multi layer process.

1) Clean and sand smooth
2) Plastic adhesion promoter
3) gray krylon plastic paint (fusion) used as a primer
4) silver PPG automotive
5) PPG clear

It turned out OK... I had issued with the PPG attacking the Fusion paint, so I had to sand it all off, and do it twice. The Fusion needed a full 72 hours to cure.


Just an FYI. My grab handles were Teal... but they were all stained with mildew. I scribed them repeatedly in scalding hot water, and every household cleaner I had. After 5 or 6 attempts to clean them, I decided to paint them with a vinyl paint. I bought whatever brand Pep-Boys had, and it worked great. I used black to cover all the stains.

How did you get the old ones off?

I removed part of the large seadoo sticker off the rear hatch, but it was a total pain in ***. I ended up covering with hydro turf instead..

The large SEADOO went on the back hood, and the Twin Rotax went on the side. Sorry I dont remember the sizes. Here is a pic of what the back looks like. Yoy can almost see how big the SEADOO is.
