Hi Guys, I have a 95 seadoo GTX with dual carby and I want to change it to a single carby setup. I have another base and single carby setup from a 98 GS which i believe will bolt on to this 95 GTX. Someone said that I have to do some adjustments to the reed valve timing and I was hoping that someone could explain me how its done. I am a car mechanic and know very little about jetski repairs so any help would be highly appreciated.

The reason for me to go to single carby setup is that my dual carby bolts are frozen and the heads are striped and I have to remove the reed valve cover to work on the carbys and also the single carb has a accelerator pump wihich will help in easier startup.

Thanks

I have never dropped down from the twin set up to the single carb but have done vice versa.

I think you may loose a bit of performance but probably not a lot. The single carb setups have larger jets and require a higher pop off pressure. So, you might be able to do a direct change.

The GTX was equipped with the 657X Rotax which is closer in horsepower to the 717 (which is in the GS) than it was to the standard 657.

I didn't look at the rotary valve but I don't think there is going to be any real change. The reason is because it's still timed to suck fuel into a twin cylinder engine just as two carbs are. So, I'd bolt it up and give it a try. Remember to check your spark plugs often after running idle, mid range and full throttle to see how much fuel is being delivered at the low speed jet, mid range (both high and low jets) and full throttle on the high speed jet.

:agree:, +1....if the RV does come/fall off the gear, then you'll need to reset the timing of it at 147*/65*

Frozen bolt of the dual carbs

Thanks for the timing info..
BTW, any ideas of removing those carb bolts without breaking anything?

Thanks

To get to the carbs, you'll need to pull the intake manifold off. There's just NO WAY to remove the carbs otherwise. There's 4-13mm bolts securing it to the case.

I have a 95 gtx that had the same stuck bolts, I was lucky to find the rotary cover out to the flame screens from someone who had a wreck and decided to part his 96 717 out, the jets were almost identical so it ran the same as before. If I were you I would be sure you have all the correct fitment parts and then do some checking to compare the jet sizes from the original to the new-2-you carb setup, do not make any extended high speed runs until you know these jets are close, running lean will burn sliding parts quickly.

I forgot to mention I had to make some homeade parts for the choke on my duel carbs but if you get the oil pump cable from the donor motor everything else should be good with throttle and choke - on our OEM 657x the pump cable runs a different direction than all the others.
